as a supporter of joe calzaghe i just cannot see why on earth joe has decided to fight roy jones.

joe has absoloutly nothing to gain from this fight and has everything to lose.

so what if he beats a past it roy jones, it does nothing to cement his legacy at all, yet if he loses people will go on about what roy would have done to him in his prime.

joe should have took on pavlik, a fight i feel strongly that he would win. with pavlik, joe had nothing to lose. he was taking on a young unbeaten fighter with a big reputation who would have sat nicely on joes resume with victories against other young, hungry, undefeated champions in lacy and kessler.

joe is undoubtedly past his prime at 37, he had everything to gain and nothing to lose from fighting pavlik. joe has been very poorly advised on fighting jones instead of pavlik.

the funny thing is that i think joe has the style to beat pavlik (even at 37) but i've got a feeling that jones is gonna find one more great fight in himself and beat calzaghe.

calzaghe deserves better than to go bow out of boxing losing to an over the hill roy jones, it would effectively **** up his legacy forever.

Apparantly they give people money to do boxing these days.

I hope that goes some way to easing your confusion.

Money, the man is 37 years old his self and wants to make some money before he retires, can't really blame him, he has dedicated his LIFE to boxing and deserves to make something out of it.

You never know too, this could turn out to be a competitive fight.

i win over pavlik wouldnt mean anything if pavlik lose many upcoming fights. People still dont know pavlik and how good will be at the end of his career. RJJ legacy is already cemented and is guaranteed hall of famer. so I say a win over rjj means more than a win over pavlik right now at this stage of pavlik's career. let him beat more credible opponents first.

joe would pick up plenty of cash for fighting pavlik. calzaghe's setting himself up for a needless fall imo. his advisors should care more for his legacy at this stage rather than a few extra quid in the bank.

He will make good against Pavlik but not more than Jones.

Well Joe is probably taking this fight for resume purposes (Jones Jr. looks good on your resume whether he is shot or not and you need some kind of names to be a HOFer or ATG). I still feel people are kind of underrating Jones coming into the fight but that's another issue. I would still rather see Joe fight a more fresher guy such as a Pavlik (especially) or Dawson, but hey guy is already a HOFer and probably is trying to cash in before he hangs them up.

Money fight against a shot legend. Not difficult to decipher.

a resume of eubank, lacy, kessler, hopkins, pavlik wouldn't look so bad when you consider that it was in 2 weight divisions and 3 of them were undefeated champions at the time.

what worries me is that joe is past his best as well now and his hands are brittle as ****. the guy doesn't deserve to go out of boxing losing to an over the hill roy jones.

People seem to forget boxing is about money, i would rather be rich than have a legacy.

So i can't blame Joe for taking an easier money spinning fight.

He picked the fight anyway and I'm sure he knows what he's doing, there's a lot of money there and he has been waiting for big money fights like that all his life. If he loses then he loses trying and gains respect, if he wins then he made excellent money and can retire undefeated as he's secured with money and undefeated. Best of luck to him, RJJ is an all-time favorite of mine and I'll be rooting for him but if Joe wins then he wins, the man has seen nothing but hate and insults(even from me) all his career, enough is enough.
