He wouldn't have been knocked out in four, I know that much.

    No comment aside from that.

Calzaghe had the footwork and ring smarts to avoid getting overwhelmed.

Once Calzaghe hit the offensive button he would have punched Kovalev to bits.

People can slag off Calzaghe's opponents and ambition but the man was a seriously good fighter. That can't be denied.

Calzaghe would of been to awkward from the Southpaw stance for Kovalev to land clean.

Then would of overwhelmed him when he got inside because like Bellew pointed out, hes very easy to hit.

I actaully think Joe would of stopped him late on.

    True...

See, that is where you veer off from the reasonable IMO.

Calzaghe wouldn't be overwhelmed but from there it's a murky read. Is it another Lacy job? Does Kovalev get him late? I can't really commit to either outcome. It could well be either, or it could wind up close and difficult to score.

True, but you're selling Kovalev a bit short in saying he would get punched to bits. He seems to be seriously good as well. (though of course time will tell and he is yet to prove it like Calzaghe did over many years)

Calzaghe beat a better fighter in Eubank for the title then Kovalv did in Clev.

If you watch Kovalev in the third round of the Clev fight he's puffed enough espcially when Clev is taking a count. RJJ comments on this in the HBO commentary.

The minute Kovalev gets tired he's definitely in the wrong place. I see Calzaghe as being able to withstand the early storm and then when he pours the pressure on he ends it. Until I see Kovalev being able to operate at a high level for 12 rounds my money is on the man who can definitely do it in Calzaghe.

I've said in previous posts that I see Kovalev as the man to beat at LHW at the moment. In saying that he has a bit to go before I believe he is better than Calzaghe. Calzaghe gets under rated for his opposition and lack of travelling but as I said he was a tremendous fighter.

    The Geek agrees with you.

Joe's footwook and angles would have been a nightmare for Kovalev.

But we still don't know how good Kovalev is but time will tell.

Yep without any doubt dont see how one could argue otherwise, i'll go one further i think he is certainly top 10 all time British fighter and deserves to be in the HOF better then Froch in my book always felt Joe gets so underrated you dont end up ranked no 2 p4p in the world at one stage in your career if your not a special fighter

Calzaghe will do a lacy on him, or stop him late, Froch would beat Kovalev too.

When people dismiss Calzaghes resume it makes me laugh

He beat a prime Hopkins and Kessler pretty damn easily.
He destroyed the next coming of Mike Tyson in Jeff Lacey, who suddenly become a hype job and a bum when Joe destroyed him.
The truth was a bully puncher like Lacey could never recover from the beat down he got in Manchester.
He beat Eubank for the title, and came through difficult fights such as Bryon Mitchell, Salem, Sheika, and Woodhall.

The only reason a lot of people discredit Calzaghes resume is because alot of the people he beat have stuck around and there new shot washed up versions have loss to much lesser fighters then Joe.

After his hands went and he started slapping everyone more, I don't think Joe had the power to keep Kov off him, and if he stayed away for 12 rounds he'd lose on points anyway.

Joe's been put down by jabs before so I can't see him walking through Kov's hammers.

I think Joe at the same age as Kov is now (30) gets beat.

Although I am a bit gay (no homo) for Kov at the minute, I understand JC proved the success of his style at a high level for a long time against a variety of styles and fighters and the Sergey bubble may yet burst as he starts to penetrate the elite of the division, and understand that such a fantasy prediction may look stupid if Hopkins boxes circles 'round Kov. :hey
