Of course Calzaghe would have won, overwhelmingly on points, and that's why they never met.

Ottke was/is very under rated. Sure he should have been on the end of a few points defeats, but he's what Calzaghe hates to be up against - a defence first boxer.

I've only seen him against Reid and I know he had a few dubious decisions, but you just have to look at the names on his record to see he is underrated. He seems to get a bit of stick for a low KO %, but a wins a win.

He can be underrated as a fighter by SOME, but anybody who seriously ranks him is overrating Sven Ottke. I have seen all of his major fights, several live even and he never fought a real elite fighter, obviously, best he fought was a couple of really good near-elite fighters and then an array of just solid fighters.

His comp was pretty decent, had he won convincingly over most of them, he'd be there in the SMW legacy, but he did not. He beat some of them very clearly, nearly always pretty close, but clearly and then there were about 4 specific fights that could have gone 'either way', in the sense that they weren't robberies, but neither guy really sealed it, then there were 3 DEFINITE clear losses, one including Reid.

So you have a guy that in my book has 3 losses, could have have up to 4 more(or a mix of win, draw, loss between these) and then a decent set of wins in that mix as well.

This also kills his title defence record because in his first title fight, Brewer beat him a clear as crystal 8-4, the rematch could have gone either way, you can give it to Ottke or call it a draw.

But do you get my point on Ottke? Reid, Brewer and Larsen beat him as clear as CRYSTAL. Now, Reid, Brewer and Larsen were all very good fighters so that's not a heavy negative, but one thing in his 'legacy' is his 21 title defences, which he wouldn't have on record had corruption not been in the mix.

That is another factor as well, the reffing was a scandal several times, these boys just couldn't play clean when it came to Ottke and it was odd, because he wasn't even really a fan favourite in Western Europe, specifically Germany, not a fan favourite like Abraham by any means.

So all in all, he was a good fighter at best that beat some other good fighters, lost to some good fighters, but was always competitive....

A top 10 All Time SMW? Nah.

But Ottke's a decent win on anyone's resume if they actually recieved it, much like to the level of what Joppy was at MW I suppose.

Oh and the Mundine KO loss is definitley a low point for Mundine, but at 10 fights, he was winning that fight so clearly that even the cards in Germany reflected Mundine very much ahead at the time of the KO, another credit against Ottke or a credit to Mundine's ability, you decide.
