Either would have been huge fights. Collins would bring the Irish out of the woodwork and Eubank would have been his usual self in pre fight pressers / tv and got a lot of people talking.
Eubank has publically stated that he did not want to fight Jones and that Jones would have won. :good Collins would have been a nothing fight, although I would not have minded seeing Roy hand Steve his ass on a plate :yep
Erhh i think you guys are going over the top, roy jones owns JC!!?? Hmmm very much doubt that. Tough close fight, split decision maybe. Roy jones never faced anyone like JC so it would be hard to predict how he'd react to all those puches being thrown at him from all those angles. Styles make fights and this would have been a heck of a fight but Joe Calzaghe is a future HOF and the greatest SMW ever :bbb
Roy may have never faced anyone like Calz...but isn't the same said for Calzaghe? Not just that but Roy Jones outclassed two guys who IMHO ARE HOFers in Toney and Hopkins. Styles will always makes fight...but you know what the best counter for a style is? Unreal talent. Roy had it. Joe's advantages end at "he's a style RJJ has never seen before."
Joe would not throw as many punchs or he would get counterd to bits. Styles do make fights, when a fighter takes away your biggest attribute: Speed in Joe's case then you are in bad shape, :good
1. Why did Hopkins not take the 40%? He already had a loss to Roy, he was less highly regarded at the time, Roy was p4p #1 and Roy was a bigger star. 2. The DM fight didnt happen because neither of them wanted to fight aborad.
If Joe did have a bad style for Jones with his speed and workrate, outcome would be up for grabs. Hopkins for example had a slightly difficult style for Jones, Calzaghe is made for Jones, doesn't mean Hopkins' 4 rounds won mean he's superior to Calzgahe. Calzaghe prime to prime clearly beats Hopkins. Clearly gets owned by Jones, there's really no way he can win if Jones fights a safety first, counter-move fight.
I agree. Also I would have to add that Roy won 8 (9 rounds for me) off of Hopkins with a broken right hand. I actually think that if you take the Jones out of the Hill fight and give him the Hopkins out of the Johnson fight Roy would beat him much more convincingly than he did in their first meeting.
