Considering that SRR was beating Joey Maxim at 175, I'd say SRR wins, and wins handily. Brit****ia is running wild!
Fairest point I've seen. But I still think he'd have a hard time winning a decision over Robinson, I think he would probably have a better chance of knocking him out.
I can't believe that people are entertaining the idea that Calzaghe could beat the GOAT. This forum is getting trashier as the days go by....
It's funny how short peoples memoies are..I remember him being called the next Roy Jones and a mini Mike Tyson. Lacy was the real deal, he was unlucky to fight one of the true ATG.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, Calzaghe was a helluva fighter, but disrespecting SRR is just wrong. Especially comparing to him to a hype job like Lacy. Come on.
It's just the Brits doing that. No one else entertains the fact that Calzaghe or Lacy is even in the same stratosphere as ROBINSON in terms of skills. :rofl Not saying that the Joey Maxim fight was not a legit win but come on, ain't no man knocking out Robinson. NONE. :hey
That doesn't mean he was. There are hype jobs in boxing all the time. If they are that great one fight will not kill them unless its physically. If Lacy was all that great he would have at least handled Calzaghe better than past his prime Hopkins did. He didn't. The guy fought NOBODY prior to Calzaghe.
Revisionist fanboy rubbish. It would be on par with Billy Joe Saunders lacying GGG now, how much higher the Yanks rated him.
Had Lacy beaten Tarver, Hopkins, Jones, Dawson, or Ward or someone of that caliber there might be room for argument. But he never beat anyone close to that. He couldn't even beat Jermain Taylor or way past his prime RJJ. And past his prime Hopkins handled Calzaghe better. Its easy to say Calzaghe ruined him, and maybe he did, but that still doesn't prove he would not have lost to some of the guys he did later on. He fought nine months after Calzaghe and won his next three fights, that's not really indicative of someone who was 'ruined', far more likely he was just never that good. Either way, comparing him to Sugar Ray Robinson is nothing less than a travesty.
According to many GGG has only fought bums. And would Omar Shieka not rank higher than anyone GGG has fought. Calzaghe ruined him.
