Berol if you could meet Calzaghe face to face, what would you say to him? I guarantee, you wouldn't call him a coward
I didn't say coward. I said cowardzaghe. get with it hanman, you are forcing me to click on your ignored posts.
Hey mate I'm a white Brit living 15 miles from Joe and saw him fight from the age of 12 until he retired but I voted Robinson , hands down we're all proud of Joe Calzaghe around these parts but SRR was a complete level above Joseph in most boxing fans opinions .
That's because you sir, are not part of the lunatic fringe. To be honest, I don't think they believe most of the nonsense they post about the subject. Just looking to get a rise out of us yanks, which usually works.
You should be, Calzaghe was a helluva fighter no question about it. Its the disrespect for Sugar Ray that is annoying. Only a moron would compare him to Jeff Lacy. What irritates me is people knocking a guy they never saw fight, they just know the name. Only issue I have with Calzaghe is he should have fought Ward or Dawson before retiring instead of over the hill Roy Jones Jr. Then no one could argue he didn't beat a great fighter in their prime. Hopkins was still a good fighter when Calzaghe went against him so that one wasn't bad, but there was no reason for the Jones fight. Lacy and Kessler I think were a step below.
Another thing I'd add about Calzaghe and Lacy, I think Calzaghe might have been the worst possible matchup for Lacy. Mainly because Lacy's best punch was the left hook. I've always thought the left hook was the most difficult punch to land against a southpaw, because you are either hitting his guard or the back of his head. Especially one the caliber of Calzaghe. Its almost like the southpaw stance was designed to stop a left hook. Don't claim to be an expert, but I always thought the key to beating Calzaghe for a right handed fighter might have been the uppercut. Because when he comes in and lets his hands go he's so fast its damn near impossible to counter him, but it always looked to me like if you could whether the barrage and block with your left a good right handed fighter might sneak an uppercut below those bombs of his. Course, I could be totally wrong. Problem is, not many lighter weight fighters have strong uppercuts.
The thing is mate after Calzaghe has beaten Hopkins he didn't need to fight ever again but he had always respected Roy and promptly sacked his own promoter and set up a deal via Mobile phone mostly with Roy to fight each other with a 59-50 split of all monies the fight earnt , by him doing that it raised his stock even more IMO as he could have just hung them up after he beat Hopkins . , in the scheme of this the result of the RJJ fight is irrelevant as it proved nothing as we all know Roy was and still continues to be shot to Shiite .
Calzaghe has a much better chance of out pointing Robinson. A stoppage win for Joe is the least likely outcome IMO.
