Calzaghe has the worst style for Wright imaginable, a fast mover with a constant workrate coming from all angles? Wright can't deal with that, he had a close fight with Mosely at 154 2nd time around. At 170, or a big 2 pounds lighter, he looked like garbage and would lose every round against Joe. He has no power to keep Joe from just blitzing him round after round, Joe would gladly take those feather duster shots to set up some bombs. What are you on?
Calzaghe could never even make 160, what's the point of this thread? It's like asking Taylor to make 154.:yep
I am on the real stuff here. Wright won almost 12 rounds to none against Tito at 160 and Trinidad was a much more aggressive and dangerous fighter than Calzaghe ever was ( I tend to say that Mosley had more punching power at 154 than Calzaghe has at 168, talking about feather dust punchin). I have every reason to believe that Winky would do well with Calzaghe, even at 170, because he has a better, straighter jab than Calzaghe and about the same reach - 74, 75 ins. Calzaghe's keys to victory against Kessler were his versatility, switching attacks upstairs and downstairs, giving angles to it and the handspeed - not definitely punching power - Winky and Oscar at 5'10'' of height would create problems for 5'11 1/2" Calzaghe with their lead shots, their own punch speed and their top class experience ( and Winky looked thicker, bulked and much stronger against Hopkins than lean-muscled Calzaghe against Lacy, Manfredo and Kessler)... People want to have us confused that there's something in between 168 lbs ( 76 kg), 160 lbs ( 72 kg) and 154 lbs ( 69 kg) and concerning Joe Calzaghe, Ronald Wright and Oscar De La Hoya... There would have if Kessler was concerned but with Calzaghe, there's nothing in between the 3 - they would all have close fights between themselves, in my opinion. Of course, Calzaghe wins those fights at 168 lbs because the other guys wouldn't be comfortable at that weight, but not in sensational fashion like this thread seems to suggest.
At 160, I'd favor all 3 since Calzaghe would only have one arm. At 168, none of the three beat him, and none of the three get closer than a 116-112 score against him.
That's what gets overlooked in the equation a lot. Bhops would have probably won even easier had he been able to weigh 8 extra pounds as well. Not to mention how much more from "home" those fighters would have been.
I think Winky beats him. Winky's style would nullify his style while Calzaghe will eat punches(with no power) all fight. Winky has a tremendous work rate and he will have NO trouble finding calzaghe and just scoring more while making Calzaghe slap arms.
What ****ing bombs...lol.. his side arm slaps that would not get through winkys guard at all. After calzaghe's nose is broken from eating jabs all night and not getting through the tightest defense in boxing he will be a little hesitant. ****ing calzaghe fans are amusing.
Tito gets a lacy style beatdown maybe getting stopped late. Oscar is a little more competitive because he can move better but also gets stopped late. Winky would keep it interesting but lose the decision
Right. For this to be an apples to apples comparison, the closest would be Winky because of the catchweight he fought Hopkins at. For the best way for this comparison to get made, you'd really have to replace Tito and Oscar with great fighters who were naturals at 154, since that 7 pound weight jump from WW essentially would negate the 8 pound difference Hopkins and Calzaghe fought at for most of their career. So, then the question becomes, what great 154 lb fighter could've jumped up to 168 and beaten Calzaghe? Like the list of former WW's who could beat Hopkins, I'd say it's a damn short one. Doesn't make either less of a fighter, but taking that into account, I do think Calzaghe's wins resume isn't as far from Hopkins in quality as it gets made out to be some times.
Its hard to hit a guy clean that curled up into a ball and didn't throw a thing. Face it, Manfredo was outclassed, realised it fast and didn't want to fight after that.
No calzaghe did not want to fight so he just went on a slap barrage missing every single punch and he pushed Manfredo back against the ropes to make it seem like he was actually doing something. He was not outclassed...lol Manfredo caught him a few times and thats when he went on slap attack while Manfredo just was waiting for that ****** to gas out on slaps. Even if all those punches landed Manfredo would not of been hurt...**** out of here with those british excuses.
