    Look at state of this:

Holding on for dear life against a double vision Kessler round after round cos he couldn't deal with the punch output or physicality of Kessler closing the distance on him so he had to hold him or bore in head first

Same people who are all over Ward now spent years shitting on WK for it...

Calzaghe would outwork Ward like he did Hopkins

Calzaghe reluctantly agrees to fight in san Francisco

ward states no way is he fighting that far away from home and refuses the fight.

Has Ward faced anyone as fast, awkward & unpredictable as JC? A volume puncher with a high work, great engine, used the ring well, brilliant footwork & could fight at all ranges... Southpaw. High IQ...

Ward is an incredibly effective operator no doubt, with a great ring IQ too but he's not the boxing 'Floyd type' master some like to make him out to be! Hence his clinching & boring in with his head..

He was actually embarrassing in that first Kovalev fight! His offense, to get on the inside, was to basically billy goat Kova  hardly the stuff of pugilistic legend...

A blind Kessler almost lifted him off his feet too with a short left lol he could barely cope with Kesslers aggression & closing the distance so had to cheat to negate it...

JC would make him work. That BS Ward pulls wouldn't work with him.. Competitive fight. But Calzaghes pace & volume nicks a close decision IMO

Both Kessler & Bika rate Calzaghe as the best fighter they fought. That & watching Ward compensate for the areas he lacks in with headbutts & holding is good enough for me

    :)

I think Joe's workrate makes it close but Ward just has more weapons and is more diverse. I think Ward outpoints in a 7-5 type fight.
