Kessler won't happen because it wouldn't impress the Americans more than Pavlik or even Woods, after he beats Tarver. (so, worse risk/reward) RJJ? Only if Calzaghe feels he's declining fast. Dawson? A big enough name by this winter? In fact, even Bute has a higher chance of fighting Calzaghe than Kessler.

When Calzaghe beats Hopkins and Kessler beats Miranda - both in the US - then that might well change :)

Still would HBO take the risk on something that might change?

If I was a massive Kessler fan (from Denmark), I'd stop thinking about the whatiffs of a possible Calzaghe rematch and concentrate on a good fight against Bute in 2009 instead...after Bute proves himself more and after he gains some more experience and improves and learns, and after Kessler picks up a belt or makes some good wins and gets himself back on track in impressive fashion against top competition.

Kessler caught Calzaghe at the end of his career. He wanted a shot and he got it. He lost. Not the end of the world. But Kessler and Bute are both young and have at least 5 years in front, if they're both lucky. They can fight 3 times in that time, if Bute is good enough to make it competitive...:thumbsup

Then there's also Dawson...same thing applies...another 3 fights with Dawson can be made...6 great fights for Kessler, and that's only looking at Bute and Dawson!:D

Dawson is ready - and he never will be - the only "champion" fighting people worse than Dawson's opponents is Mundine. Dawson got one thing going for him - he is American - that's about it...

As for Bute - he has no relevanse to Calzaghe - sorry - he happens to hold on to Calzaghe's belt - that's it. If Kessler beats Miranda and gets the fight with Taylor, that DiBella has said could very well happen in the fall - and if Kessler of course beats Taylor - than he will have surpased Bute and Dawson in relevanse - but again - he still wouldn't be that relevant :(

Well after the Miranda and Hopkins fight I think they will be able to get a decent idea on how many would be interested.

But as I said earlier - I don't belive in this fight becoming relevant - another thing is that Calzaghe doesn't do rematches - he never did and he said to Kessler after the fight that he wouldn't be looking for a rematch - according to him because he wouldn't be getting better and Kessler would :)

The only reason Calzaghe fought Kessler apart from the money was for the WBA and WBC and therefore undisputed SMW title. What does Kessler offer now?

I'm not concentrating on a Calzaghe-rematch - just answering the thread's theme :) - I find it highly unlikely to happen.

As for Bute - we'll know a whole lot more of his abilities after Andrade - but he is looking good so far.

Dawson - I'm not at all sold on him - as far as I can see he is a bit hyped and has a very very questinable chin. I think most quick fighters with a good punch will eventually stop him - there is a reason they have him facing nobodies. He has one good win in Adamek and a few decent in Harding and Mendoza.

If he beats Miranda, Taylor and Pavlik - the same thing Hopkins has got to offer - reputation and $$$

But as I said - I find it very unlikely - if Calzaghe is smart - and he usually is - then he will retire after Hopkins. If he is a moneyhungry ***** he'll go for Louis' 25 defends record fighting nobodies in Wales - people like Ashira and Manfredo...

I don't see why it would be any different.

Calzaghe is too fast for Kessler

Which opponent do you think makes sense if Calzaghe beats Hopkins?

He himself has said one of his career goals is to be a two weight world champ so i would imagine a belt holder at LHW.

Wouldn't make much sence after beating Hopkins who is by most seen as the best LHW atm...

And no mater which champion he should choose to gain a belt would be a big step down from Kessler/Hopkins

funny considering round 4 was kessler's best round.

anyways my entire point is that sometimes even if a fighter wins a fight clearly, he can still lose a rematch, especially when its competitive throughout. Even the middle rounds calzaghe clearly won were still competitive. If Kessler can fight a little bit better he has a very realistic shot. I would actually pick him to win a rematch even if it were to happen today. Sometimes it doesn't take much to swing a few rounds in your favor
