You mentioning Kessler but guess what? Kessler is a much better fighter then both Miranda and stamina problem Taylor. <<<Now tell me if i'm wrong? Calzaghe vs Pavlik will be exactly like Calzaghe vs Lacy in a shutout. Yes For some reason Calzaghe don't want to fight Pavlik but hey how many times Calzaghe refuse or cancel his fight with Lacy? Remember when many was saying Calzaghe was scared to fight Lacy? Well look what happen when they finally fought? Calzaghe not only beat Lacy but he beat him in a shutout.
People don't understand how smart and adaptable Calzaghe was. You could say his resume is overrated, on the other hand, his skills are hugely underrated. No one had ever frustrated Hopkins like he did in the 2nd half of the fight, once he got into a Pacquiaoesque rhythm Bernard hardly found any room for a clean blow and started to gas, never before or after (Pavlik) that happened to him. You have to understand that not even Jeff Lacy was caught regularly by 50-65% of power punches before the fight like Pavlik does, and Joe eats flawed people up like Chris Arreola eats tacos after a workout. The ultimate decider is that you simply can't outjab Calzaghe and the very punch Pavlik's game depends on is the jab. In a fantasy fight Joe would simply step to his right, throw his own quicker jab and may have an even round before absolutely unleashing hell on Kelly like he did on Lacy. Different styles, yes, but Pavlik without the jab is like Jeff without a left hook, a very flawed, predictable, clueless fighter in there with a smart, adaptable, speedy predator, and Calzaghe can throw 1200 off-rhythm shots. To his credit, Pavlik would never go down even though Joe could sit on his punches when he wanted to (so far the only one to hurt Kessler and knock down Lacy). But Kelly would look like a clueless fighter in slow-mo and the ref or Loew or Mike Pavlik would say enough by the end of the 8th. I'm gonna say, Kelly is getting underrated on these boards, but it's just the most horrible style for Pavlik, the very weapons Hopkins used (side step, neutralizing jab and right hand, well timed counters and combos landing at will), Calzaghe can do 5 times busier. Joe by TKO, and I'd say there's less than 20% of the shutout, Calzaghe stop Pavlik.
:good Great post. boo, Hermit won't admit it but Calzaghe style is way wrong for Pavlik. Boo and Hermit should watch Calzaghe vs Lacy and maybe just maybe they both will say "thank god Calzaghe didn't fight Pavlik."
Stablemate, Gary Lockett. Jesus. He was really ****. Not even highly rated in Britain..... in fact not really rated that much at all let alone 'highly'. Joe never called Kely Pavlik out, you my son are totally deluded. Pavlik on the other hand, constantly called Joe out until he got found out. Since then he has had his career in survival mode & not fought anyone elite! Give him credit for fighting Martinez though!
Only to themselves, but not to us. Here they're gonna say "oh but that's Jeff Lacy for Chrissakes", forgetting that Lacy entered the fight as an unbeaten KO artist just like Pavlik entered the Hopkins fight, a huge favorite, and that Jeff only injured his shoulder AFTER the fight - it's like taking Pavlik's jab away. They'll never realize how limited, slow, flawed and one-dimensional Pavlik is on the world-class level outside of the jab-right hand tactic, but you gotta admit, Pavlik became an ELITE fighter with those skills and it takes a special fighter to take'em away from him. Give credit where it's due, Kelly would beat a lot of good and great fighters, even in historical perspective - but not the kind of fighter Calzaghe is, Pacquiao in speed, movement, angles, rhythm and output and Hopkins in smarts and adaptablity. Pavlik is made in heaven for a nice Calzaghe TKO, and because I still like Kelly, thanks God the fight never happened.
If Pavlik won I'd say "Sorry Mr Calzaghe, but you seem to be the victim of a 60000 to 1 FREAK OCCURENCE!"
calzaghe would dominate him badly, pavliks corner would pull him out after about 10 rounds when hes bleeding, battered & 10 rounds down.
Best post I've read on JC for a while:deal He could step off and sit down on his punches when he wanted to. A lot of people ignore this. They also ignore people like byron mitchell saying that he had never been hit so hard so often!!!:bbb
