Calzaghe always had a great chin, being put down dosent mean KOd. In both the knockdowns suffered to Hopkins and Jones, lets not pretend Calzaghe was staggering round the ring and nearly out, he took harder punches later in both fights without effect
He was badly hurt against Jones, if Jones still was in his prime and could let his hands go he might have knocked him out. He wasnt hurt in the Hopkins fight though.
he took a ****ing forearm to the face A FOREarm! he wasnt close to be knocked out even after the knock down also jones wasnt the only boxer not in his prime
dear god man a proper quick foreman is solid. no protection for your face. plus it didnt even daze joe, he got right back up and dominated the round calzaghe tried to entertain and he got caught off balance 2 times against those 2 guys.
There was no entertaining in the Hopkins fight. Maybe fighting a shot to **** Roy Jones who couldnt even finish a welterwieght, but against Hopkins he was in a fight and looked bad.
Trust me he was hurt, even if he tried to hide it, you could see it on his face. But as I said before its more likely that Calzaghe would outpoint Abraham, but if Abraham hits him hard it might be over, Abraham is a terrific finisher.
Calzaghe wins a very wide decision. He's capable of throwing 1200 punches, and if he can get past the first 4 rounds, which he should 'cause Abraham is starting slow to figure you out, the last 8 would be like most rounds of Pac-Clottey. Abraham definitely has the punchers chance as he's a highly intelligent predator and Calzaghe often plays too brave in the later rounds (watch vs. Kessler, R12), but other than that, Joe would always be a step ahead, and would outmaneuver Abraham like he did with Kessler. Other than the workrate and mobility, mental warfare would be the decider for Calzaghe. He's just so horrible of a style for many many fighters, Abraham is one of them. Calzaghe 118-110
He was hurt by a good punch of Jones, but not so hurt that he was close to being KOd. His eyes were clear, and he was throwing punches, even dropping his hands to lure Jones in. Calzaghe wasnt in his prime either, and has never looked likely to be stopped in his career. Id also guess Jones hits harder than Abraham. Remember the big uppercut Jones landed on Calzaghe at the end of the 6th? It was harder than the forearm that caught Calzaghe in the 1st, and he walked through it
This is one of the few fights Arthur really would've to go for the kill. Against Calzaghe it's almost impossible to win a UD - he's simply that good (although his style is akward). What AA has against every fighter is his puncher's chance. Calzaghe has an iron chin, but I doubt he could take flush shots from Arthur.
I don't like Calzaghe in this one. Since Miranda 1, Abraham's good defense has gotten better, in my opinion. Also, Calzaghe hasn't been in with anyone with the explosive power of Abraham. I don't think Calzaghe is the bigger, stronger man either. While I see Calzaghe employing his awkward, peppering, in and out style, he doesn't have the force in his punch to dissuade Abraham, who'll patiently stalk and lull him for unexpected and explosive counters. While both fighters are notorious slow starters, I wouldn't be surprised if this ended with an early KO for Abraham, as Calzaghe has shown a propensity to get nailed and dropped early in fights. I just don't know if he'd get up from an Abraham shot.
