Why is Kessler better than Tito or Tarver? Kessler never beat anyone. Tito was the favorite against Hopkins. Tarver was the #1 Light Heavyweight at the time.

Hopkins stepping up 2 weightclasses as such an advanced age to beat the reigning Light Heavyweight champion was a much more impressive achievement then JC beating Kessler. Let's face facts.

To me, JC fought Eubank (right near the end of his career), and that was an impressive win. He beat Kessler who was "the second best" at 168, but never impressed me, nor did he really ever prove himself (other than an undefeated record against a who's who of low to mid-level fighters).

Hopkins beat a more impressive list of names, and whether they were at their "prime weights" or not is largely irrelevant. Rarely do people meet at the prime age in the prime weight. JC caught Kessler at his prime age and prime weight, but Kessler was never half the fighter that Winky, RJJ, Trinidad, DLH, etc. was...

Kessler has no defense. Lacy had no defense. Manfredo is just not a skilled fighter at all.

Calzaghe is a very good fighter, but face facts. He never fought anyone with Hopkins-like defense. He never fought anyone close to it.

To say JC will dominate a fighter who has never truly been dominated is ridiculous. Hopkins fights with rough-house tactics that JC isn't used to.

I never liked Hopkins as a person or a fighter. I always thought he was boring and an *******. By the way, what ATG HOFer did JC ever beat? I don't know about the rest of the world, but to be an ATG fighter, you have to beat another ATG.

Must it be so hard to explain:

Tarver got lucky against Jones, he was never great :good,.

At the weights i.e. a 168lb Kessler is a better fighter than a 160lb Trinidad and De La Hoya, who is franky not a good win, he was/is a **** MW.

Kessler vs Winky at 168? Kessler absoulotly destroys Winky. Bigger faster, stronger and would take away Winkys jab with his own therefore he would be ****ed :good

Also Hopkins did not look "good against Winky"

Roy beat Hopkins ass with one hand, :good

It's not about putting yourself out there. None of us have a vested interest in the fight. It's my honest opinion.

I still think Hopkins has enough in the tank to pull out the victory on JC. However, would I EVER call JC BETTER because he defeated a 43 year old Hopkins? No. I am not delusional. BHop is not what he was. If BHop wins, he deserves HUGE respect. If JC wins, he is doing what 95% percent of the people who voted in this threat expected him to do...win. So, what's the big deal?

Um...Tarver may not be great, but he has accomplished certain things in boxing that Kessler did not: Mainly, he defeated MUCH better competition in a more competitive division.

Kessler was not a better fighter at 168 then Trinidad was at 160. I agree that DLH was a **** Middleweight, but 99% of the people both Calzaghe and Kessler fought were **** FIGHTERS. Big difference...

But Winky is a BETTER FIGHTER than Kessler. That's my thing. You make it out like Kessler was some killer who marched through a great division. He beat a bunch of low-level fighters in a soft division.

Kessler is a good fighter, but is he a HOFer? Not even close.

I understand the point you are making here , but the thing you didnt say , is that Hopkins is THE LHW CHAMP , so Calzage will be doing a bit more than you make out by winning this

Fellow Calzaghe fans agree with the Hopkins nut huggers.

Frame their posts and their boasts about how Hopkins has looked better against top notch competition.

Dispute it not...for when JC whoops that old limp *******s ass it will make the victory all the better....if we continue to pick holes in Hopkins resume and state the blatantly obvious(that is hes lost to the two best fighters hes ever faced) it devalues the win for JC somewhat. Furthermore definetly play down the fact that Hopkins looked shite against a blown up JNR Middle in his last fight...as the hindsight analysts will state that this was the first evidence of Hopkins looking old and use this as a means to explain away the upcoming loss.

Hopkins is great! Hes really incredible! Shout it loud and say it proud but all of you better be here bowing at JC's altar for when he beats that old boring ass all over Nevada.

I disagree with you on all points. However, this is all semantics.

Hopkins will be utterly utterly shocked when he gets in that ring with Joe Calzaghe. He wont have any answer, Calzaghe is going to badly outbox Hopkins and beat him up. He wil win nearly every round :good

As Hopkins said before he ducked Roy: "The only way I am going anywhere is if I get assasinated"

Joe Calzaghe is going to assasinate Beranrd Hopkins. :yep

That sounds pretty lame to me

You expect Hopkins to win, and if Joe wins you will discredit him by saying Hopkins is old. Man, most people wait until after the fight before coming out with that bitter ****

It sounds like you aren't very confident in your pick...can't blame you

But JC is SUPPOSED to win. I mean in the boxing forums and from everything I've heard, everyone except Hopkins/USA nuthuggers think JC will win. Therefore, Hopkins is the underdog, a live one, but a good size underdog.

Therefore, what do you want me to do? Give JC all the credit in the world for being the favorite and winning???

Do you think Hopkins would've been an underdog against JC in his prime? Absolutely not.

I think that's logical. I give JC credit if he beats Hopkins. But let's put it in perspective.

In 1978, Muhammad Ali was the reigning heavyweight champion when he lost to Leon Spinks. Spinks was NEVER better than Ali, nor did he beat anything near a prime Ali. However he did win the Heavyweight Title from Ali. The difference was...Leon Spinks was the underdog in this fight.

Why is it soooooooo great if the favorite beats the underdog? Why is a supposedly great fighter elevated sooooo much by beating a 43 year old champion? Think about it...

But we aren't talking about what everyone else on the forum says, we are talking your pick

In your eyes Hopkins is going to win, therefore you clearly see him as the favourite. You can't then backtrack and come out with ****, you have to man up

By the way, it's actually about a 70/30 split for Joe

Hahaha is this a joke? Listen, I will say it slowly for you.

    Hopkins...Is...The...Better...Fighter...

    Hopkins...Is...Also...An...Old...Man...

    Calzaghe...Is...The...Favorite...

CALZAGHE IS SUPPOSED TO WIN. I'll give him credit, but not THAT much. Get real. He's fight a WAYYYYYYY past his prime ATG who 95% of this website feels he will beat.

I mean cmon man. I am confident in Hopkins boxing ability. I am not confident in his ability to stay young forever. He has looked progressively older and worse in fights lately. I don't know how much he will have left for this fight...It will have been 9 months since his last fight...

When was the last time you gave a substantial favorite HUGEEEEE credit for beating the underdog??? Please tell me...

I dont think that it will be an amazing victory , i understand your point , and it is a good one, but i just thought that you were making less of it than it would be if Calzage wins it. Think , B-Hop is obviously past his prime because of his age , but he is still probably the best tactician in the world imo. He had the size advantage over Winky , but he made Winky lead and countered him , that is a great great thing to do tactics-wise. And before that he dropped Tarver and outpointed him.

Come on , it is still a good win at least. Hopkins is still looking decent now. Obviously in their primes Hopkins would have to be a favorite , but only because of achievements. In reallity it would be a pick'em imo.

Like i said , your point still stands with me , but just consider this post aswell. I seriously think Calzage is great though. Im not A FAN of his in particular , i just think he is great

    1) This thread has a poll where 93% of the votes are for JC
    2) Forget in my eyes, face facts: Hopkins is the underdog.
    3) In my eyes, Hopkins is better, and should win. But I don't dismiss the fact that he's 43 and deteriorating.

If you want some crazy nuthugger, I am not him. I am looking at this logically. I don't look at BHop as the favorite.

What does this have to do with "manning up"? You LOVEEEEE JC and keep talking about how great he is. What would you do if he loses???

Would you be so confident of JC winning if Hopkins wasn't 43 and slowing down tremendously???

I don't expect HUGE credit from any Yank, I mean come on you are Yanks, and we are Euro bums

But don't start giving excuses before the event. You've seen Hopkins latest fights, he's hardly going to throw any less punches, his defense is always the same, the cheating tactics are going to be the same. If you analyse it and get it wrong, that's your problem

You could predict every fight in the world correctly if you said 'So and so will win, if he doesn't it's because <insert reason>. Well done?!

As for me, I'm predicting Joe will not only win, but he'll show why Mary ducked that fight 6 years ago
