If the best of the division is in their late thirties and early forties, by and large, then you can't be blamed for actually fighting them.

Dawson. 6'3 true light heavyweight that says he can make cruiser. Fast, great footwork.

Dawson is more athletic, quicker, bigger, better defence, better variety of combinations, he is technically sound.

I strongly believe he would beat any version of Calzaghe

Calzaghe=legend Dawson=pretty good fight right now Calzaghe in his prime or even older would beat Dawson. Calzaghe has so many more dementions and a much better workrate. He is also a very good pressure fighter. He was all over Lacy. He was in jones chest the whole fight. He also stood in with Hopkins. Dawson is content to just land some shots and stay out of harms way. He had a very tough fight with Johnson and Calzaghe is much better. Dawson also takes breaks and gives rounds something Calzaghe never does/

    Chaddie

simply because Joe does not have the power dawson displays. Joe can probably get away with throwing a couple of slicing slaps that he like to do but dont get me wrong Joe is a great fighter that seems to utilize a little wing chun with the many types of punches he throws but dawson is a much bigger and quicker with his hands and can do more damage than Joe can. Part of the reason why he retired was because the one next in line for him to fight in America was Dawson. Joe took one good look at dawson and realized it was time to retire. Dawson is just to lean, mean, a real killing machine. Not that sissy early retirement baloney.

Even while Calzaghe was active I always said that Dawson would beat him. Dawson was all wrong for Calzaghe a big strong young LHW who has great movement, throws every punch in the book combos from all angles a good jab solid power and a good workrate.

Calzaghe UD, I think Dawson could win the first few and put good pressure on, but then Calzaghe would up the pace and change his tack.

As a big Calzaghe fan, I felt Dawson / Calzaghe was a 50-50 proposition in 2008.

I would have prefered to see him take Chad over Roy, but I completely understand why he opted for the $$$$ and the name.

(Roy will do more for his legacy among CASUAL fans years from now. Chad would have done more for his legacy in MY eyes)

At this point, with Joe being off for over a year and Chad being active, Chad would have the edge.

The majority disagree with you, and rightly so.

You cant forget, Joe's first fght in the USA sat him down in round 2 against an aging Roy who's power is not what it use to be. That was a reality check or what I call a good chin check. That made him think about his career. Is he really the boxer he thinks he is or is he truely a real fighter who lives to fight because real fighters will never retire early especially at a young and active age. If it was for injury or other understanding reason then yes, but not after your first fight in America when you've yet to explore the riches is has to offer. c'mon cut the baloney out.

I wish Calzaghe would have fought Dawson and then retired. I think it would have been a good close fight. I say draw.
