ok so Joe C is coming up to light heavy to take out hopkins and become undisputed champ there. Lets say he stays in the division instead of retiring (I think he will retire) and Dawson beats Tarver (he will). Who do you guys think will take it? I like bad chad in this one. Southpaw vs Southpaw. Dawson has the more powerful shots, the bigger body, the better straight left, the better right hook, and the better right jab. Joe C's got the better chin and better stamina. gentlemen, discuss away...
I like Calzaghe in a really close decision, close but also very clear. Experience and awkwardness win him the fight in my opinion, but Dawson is the biggest challenge for him. The Hopkins bout won't happen, Hopkins isn't stupid.
I was going to give a unorthodox advantage to Joe C, but I dont think that will play in effect against another southpaw. He used that very well to avoid Mikkels straight right though.
I personally think Calzaghe should fight Hopkins next, whilst Dawson takes another match, for more experience and exposure, then Calzaghe/Dawson. Whilst Joe has lost some speed,he's better than ever experience wise. I think Joe's adaptability will be too much for Dawson. It might be competitive for the first 4 rounds, but as soon as Calzaghe figures Dawson out,it'll be all Joe from there on out. Calzaghe, unlike RJJ,is entering a Hopkins aura now, with his boxing mind and "tricks." Calzaghe's output will win the fight for him against an over the hill Hopkins, and will be to much for an inexperienced Dawson.
He;s also 10 years younger, so the fans of Joe will have the age factor to toss in.....maybe rightfully so, just like the Hopkins fans can say he's 8 yrs older than Joe:-(
Interesting, overlooked, not very meaningful sidenote: Dawson has seen Calzaghe in person. Chad fought on the Calzaghe/Lacy undercard in Manchester.
