G'day. I remember after the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight there was a poll conducted on here, and something like 80 percent of the forum posters voted in Calzaghe's favor/had him winning the fight. I can't seem to find the thread, so- There was a poll on here a couple of weeks ago but it wasn't a public poll - and really, I'd like to see who watched the fight more than once, and get opinions on if your scoring changed after watching it the second/or more times. The full fight is up on youtube if anyone is interested. I remember I had Calzaghe winning a close decision - I didn't keep score though......... If I can stand watching the whole fight again, and with some help of Mr. Coffee, I might watch it again so I can actually score it. Anyway..........your guys' scorecards/who you think won.......don't forget to vote too. :good
A deaf, dumb and blind man could see calzaghe won the fight some idiots even scored the calzaghe-jones fght for jones :rofl:rofl:rofl Why can't people just give fghters there due ? Just say well done :huh
Well I remember it was a close fight. I have not watched it a second time..........yet. A shame I can't find the thread with the poll right after the fight. There were some good arguments on both sides.
calzaghe won from three sides of the ring but alot of people from the one side had b hop winning. must of been the angle the fight was being watched from. but watching the tv like i did calzaghe clearly won.
I watched it as it happened, and felt a draw would have been better suited, i've watched it again twice and each time i have calzaghe taking it by two rounds. If B-hop hadn't scored that knockdown there would be no debate at all. Alot of people have posted on here before stating how Hopkins landed overall more punches, however every time i've watched it it seems clear to me that Calzaghe was doing the better work in the clinces, was more effective/landed more jabs, did his typical light/fast flurries, and was effective with his straight rights, landed quite a few flush. According to compubox (i'm not sure how reliable or accurate that is) Calzaghe landed almost double what Hopkins did every round. Alot of people argue that Hopkins work was cleaner, however, again according to compubox, Calzaghe was landed one or two power shots less than Hopkins every round. (Calzaghes powershots being mainly his straight right, which unlike some of his punches he throws correctly). Add that to his overall workrate/aggression and i have him clearly winning the fight.
I think Hopkins beat Calzaghe, but only just, 114-113. He was miles ahead at the halfway point, because Calzaghe couldn't land **** in the first half, and actually landed little of note other than flurries in the second. Hopkins didn't do himself any favours though with his blatant cheating and running late.
I had it 114-113 for Calzaghe, cause Hopkins could have won if he could have kept up what he was doing early in the fight.
The people that score the fight for Hopkins are generally either Joe haters or they score on their own criteria rather than the creteria actually used to score boxing. Some people value clean punching above all else and thsoe people tend to score for Hopkins in this bout, but thats not how boxing is scored. Its akin to someone scoring a golf tounament based on the length of drive alone and then moaning that someone with a shorter drive got the nod because they got round in less shots. Edit: I'll add that Hopkins winning by a single point IS a valid score but you would have had to give Hopkins everything that was close. Its about as valid as Joe winning 9-3 which is the score you get if Joe gets everything that was close.
I value clean, effective punching highly, but also the way they control the fight and various other factors. Calzaghe fought Hopkins's fight Calzaghe didn't land ****, all night - meaningful anyway Hopkins scored a knockdown
I think I watched three times and had Calzaghe winning by a couple of points. It was very close early one, but by mid-fight Bernard looked befuddled.
Being kind to Hopkins I had it 114-113 Calzaghe. Hopkins just couldn't cope with this; This content is protected This content is protected
