Calzaghe by three rounds. Close until the mid-point, but Calzaghe dominated down the stretch despite Hopkins best efforts to cheat himself a decision
I had it for Calzaghe but I can't remember the scorecard I had, so I'll download it and watch it again, not watching it on YT quality.
I had Joe winning narrowly but would rather loose the argument than ever watch that boring ****ing fight again.
I found the clash of styles interesting - that was about it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyway, just to get the break down of compubox on here, whether acurate or not, to hell with it: Total Punches Jabs Power Punches Hopkins 127 / 468 11 / 93 116 / 375 27% 12% 31% Calzaghe 232 / 707 45 / 224 187 / 483 33% 20% 39%
I think it was a draw, I don't begrudge Calzaghe the win though, he deserved it more than Hopkins - who really didn't do enough to win.
LOL i agree,I can't put myself through it again that would be sadomasachistic. Anyway Joe won it for me due to Hopkins lack of fight, workrate and his sheer skullduggery:good
was a ****in awful fight, really couldn't bring myself to watch that again. at the time i had it 115-113 calzaghe
Watched it again the other day, and gave it to Hopkins. I had to. I just cannot pay calzaghe's thrashing about. It's a moral stance. But my final verdict on the 'fight' is what the **** ever. The clash of styles (mostly Hopkins') produced one of the most impossible to score affairs in boxing. What this fight proves is that there is no 'one size fits all 'metric to score boxing. The judges on this occasion gave if to Calzaghe, so he won and that's all there is to it. Who *really* won is a matter permanent subjectivity. People can have their opinions but that's all they ever will be. You should just score the fight for whoever impressed you the most.
Ive scored it 4 times...twice for Joe, twice for Bernard. 1- Calzaghe 115-112 2- Hopkins 114-113 3- Hopkins 115-112 4- Calzaghe 114-113 BUT, I will always go with my initial score, as we give judges so much flack for getting it wrong, when they only get one shot at it. As for the guy who asked HOW someone can give it to Bernard going by how your suppose to score a fight? Do you even KNOW how your suppose to score a fight? Clean and Effective Punching, Effective Aggression, Defense and Ring Generalship...with the emphasis on clean and effective punching. In fact, going on how your supposed to score a fight, its very easy to give Hopkins the nod. As I said, Ive given it to Joe...even voted that way. But cmon, it was a close fight, with MANY debatable rounds.
Hopkins won it. I did not like his tactics but even the British announcers said Calz wasn't landing ****. I agree.
