Not a bad analysis, except its hard to compare like for like when half of hopkins' opponents were either

    little guys coming up,
    or robert allen

I'd have Byron Mitchell as tougher than Keith Holmes, and Mario Veit as tougher than Hakkar

Just goes to show when you look at these things objectively Hopkins has as padded if not moreso than Calzaghe, and Joe beat him head to head in his first fight at 175, yet people argue hopkins is a nailed on top 40 ATG?

I picked Holmes over Mitchell coz he beat Taylor for the WBC MW, when Taylor was considered the man.

Also he is a two time MW champ and was defending his belt when Hopkins beat him

I was gonna put Hakkar over Veit coz he was the European champ aswell as national champ. but his achievements are similar to Veit.

I also have Sakio Bika over ODLH simply because ODLH is not a true MW, Bika however even though never won a title, was always considered being a tough cookie at SMW

    Bika was a Middleweight himself.

He moved up to SMW later on.

Bika is inferior to ODLH in terms of skill, also ODLH won a title at the weight while Bika hasnt.

    - When Calzaghe fought the best Super-middleweights - they were natural 168 pounders.

If you remember when he fought Lacy and Kessler - they were being held up as 'thee dogs bollocks', especially Jeff Lacy.

Oscar got a absolute gift against Felix Sturm - so much so the man doesn't even remember where the USA is located a world map.

    - Hopkins is incredible - if I was to call someone a truly intelligent fighter it's B-Hop. But Oscar had no business up at 160 pounds.

I see where your coming from.

ODLH was not as effective at MW than he was at LMW or WW, but watching his two fights there, he did have skill to be outboxing his opponent at times. Bika even though was rough in the ring, I placed lower than ODLH simply because ODLH was far more skillfull boxer.

But I get what you mean also that Bika was more effective at SMW than ODLH was at MW.

Ottke wasnt the best at all I agree, but he was the only other guy along with Glen Johnson I can think off that could have stepped in the ring with Calzaghe.

Ottke didnt want it, his trainer has been qouted saying it was a fight he personally wanted to happen but Sven was never interested, whether this qoute is true or not is debatable but i wouldnt bet against it.:good

I also believe De La Hoya and Bika offered about the same amount of challenge towards Hopkins and Calzaghe respectively despite the vast gap in skill.

Hopkins over the run of his career faced the better fighters... Hell he faced the best (Calzaghe and Jones), but he also lost 4 of those bouts.
