When you say "he managed to win." You make it sound like he had to use pure will and guts to outclass overhyped Lacy but it was that Lacy was garbage. If your one year past your absoloute best you aren't going to be bad I would hope. He's lost a bit but not that much and not nearly as much as Jones.
How can anyone even compare these 2 resumes is beyond me ..Joe has had more championship rds than JT has fights !
Wow 10 out of 35 people are ******ed, thats really worrying. Of course its Calzaghe its not even a contest, if Taylor had gotten over Pavilk twice it would be close however.
How do you know he was prime during those years? Because he looked unbeatable fighting all these garbage competition? Fact is his first real top level competition was Kessler, and because he didn't looked as great as beating shitty fighters, it doesn't mean he's passed it.
I agree it is Calzaghe but only at the moment but people get carried away about certain fighters he fought that Taylor would beat as well.
People have a habit of completely disregarding losses when analysing a record, and Joe doesn't have any of them.
Joe clearly has the more impressive resume right now. But Taylor is 30 and has 31 fights. Look at the highlights of Calzaghe's resume over those first 31 fights: Mario Veit Richie Woodhall Omar Sheika David Starie Rick Thornberry Robin Reid Juan Carlos Gimemez Ferreyra Branko Sobot Chris Eubank Luciano Torres Tyler Hughes Pat Lawlor Warren Stowe Mark Delaney No contest that Taylor's resume is far more impressive fight-for-fight than Calzaghe's. Give Taylor time, and he could easily surpass Joe's current resume. He may not rack up as many consecutive title defenses, and he's already got 3 fights not in the win column, but the quality of opponents he's beaten is excellent for his age/experience. All this thread is really arguing is opportunity, as in Jermain has not has had the same number of opportunities to build his resume as Calzaghe (46), but has already built quite a list of achievements.
when a fighter is declining and still manages to win with out help from the judges . that the true sign of a great fighter
every one Taylor beat joe would beat . and joe would not draw with Winkey he would beat him by UD or better :good
great post. and great point it not out of the relm that taylor surpasses him but he needs more then 2-3 fights to do so:good
people might of forgotten this http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/6649563.stm if this went through Taylor would of had his first loss to Calzaghe instead of Pavlik. How can people say Joe ducks people when he offered to fight hopkins in 2002 and taylor after the manfredo fight
