I know this fight is not made yet, but just in case it is, I thought I'd get this off my chest. Calzaghe fighting Jones is no better, if not worse, than Floyd fighting Dela Hoya. - Jones has been considered shot, or at least past his best, for years (kinda like Dela Hoya); - Jones has been fighting once a year for years (part-time fighter, kinda like Dela Hoya) - Jones is the biggest money fight for Calzaghe, kinda like Dela Hoya is for Floyd So: Who's MORE shot? Jones at 39, or Dela Hoya at 34? Who's MORE part-time? Jones fighting once a year against guys like Adajumu, Hanshaw, or Trinidad; or Dela Hoya fighting once a year against p4per's like Floyd, Mayorga or Hopkins? Who brings in the MOST money? Is Jones truly that big of a money spinner, at least in comparison to the 15-20 mill that Dela Hoya brings? Basically, if Floyd is being so punished for Dela Hoya, Calzaghe should be crucified. With that said - while Calzaghe will win, I'll still tip Roy to win. And stick with it. All Roy has to do is bring back the clock for one night, and it's his. And I feel he has one last great fight in him, whether I'm being truthful to myself or not.
Me too. I would be sad to see it happen. Roy was such a great fighter, it would be sad to see him lose again.
I Hate when lames throw the word "SHOT" around....Jose Louis Castillo is shot..................RJJ is not shot in anyway....u have to be silly to say that.... a fighter gets KO'ed and now he is shot...:huh Pac Man got KO'ed 2 times before in his career...does that mean he has been shot this whole time? :-(
Roy is shot because he has no legs and significantly dulled reflex's, from being near his best. Also he cannot sustain any action for more than 30-60 seconds.
In all honesty, I added the "or at least clearly past their best" because of your response from another thread. Roy is either shot, or clearly past his best. One OR the other. 196 hit it on the head as to why, above.
Don't want it to happen, but I called it ages ago It's an easy farewell victory, makes loads of money and would be a good occasion. When you look at how Lacy/Kessler are discredited its hardly suprising Joe takes a fight like this, why fight a young undefeated fighter like Pavlik or Dawson if you get no credit?
And do you give Floyd a pass, if this turns out to be HIS farewell? Seems a double standard for people to either PRAISE Calzaghe for the fight, or give him a pass - but then to annihilate Floyd.
I fail to see why this a bad fight. In front of a HUGE welsh crowd, one current and one soon-to-be legend with pleasing fighting styles go at it. Roy has the wildcard of power, whereas Hopkins didn't. Roy has handspeed and combinations whereas Hopkins didn't. You can't rule out any possibilities in a fight like that. My god if even a shell of the RJJ that beat Clinton Woods showed up, it would be a hell of a match. If I wanted any fighter to retire Roy, it would be Calzaghe.
I presume you mean when he fights De La Fishnets? I'd rather he fought a live body, just as I'd rather Joe fought Dawson, but he's still going to go down as a great Mayweather would also get far more credit for beating Cotto, than Calzaghe would for beating any of these guys. I can see it now. Dawson nearly lost to Glen Johnson, he needs to fight Pavlik! Pavlik is slow and one dimensional, he needs to fight someone his own weight like Dawson! It's Lacy and Kessler all over again.
no he was saying roy has hard chin and JC has no chance of huting him with his current power. would be a great fight to watch 3-4 years ag but now i think both are on the slide and it does not improve eithers record that much. going against a younger fighter will get JC the respect ofboxers who actually know what they are talking about but taking on roy will bring in the fans and the money.
