There should be no arguin Calzaghe is a great imo. If Ward does somehow manage to beat great names then it only proves he's great. Funny how when America get a guy in this era who could go on to be great they choose to disregard him and critisize him. There is no doughting Calzaghe fought better versions of both Bika and Kessler, who had not had any long lay-offs and beat them just as convincingly. If Ward beats Froch, a few top 5 contenders goes to light heavy and beats Pascal, Dawson and a few others in the top 5 there with out losing then he will have established himself as an ATG imo. As far as Calzaghe's concerned he dominated super middle weight for years. He beat everybody there and America chose to disregard everybody at that weight class because it was mostly Euro fighters and the American weren't doing too well in that division. It was too easy for Americans to duck Euro fighters ten years ago because Euro fighters were disregarded so much.
Fighters, like all athletes, have different age-ability trajectories. Ray Leonard was (comparably) a young man when Terry Norris dominated him.
Over rated, not in the slightest, "very overated" means learn your boxing. Toney is an underacheiver going by his ability and his actual potential (prime) and look how much he acheived still.
Dont know whether to pat you on the back for making me chuckle or throwup on my keyboard.:barf How dare you imply that hopkins was prime when he fought calzaghe :tired where do you get the audacity to claim that kessler and eubank are above Virgill hill? given the fact that eubank was old shot and on a few weeks notice iirc when he faced calzaghe.
Your right Calzaghes resume is much more impressive when you consider Jones was a cheat. Jones lost to Griffin, Hill was coming off a loss Tarver was a fraud who beat Jones and was beaten by Harding & Johnson atsch Malinga lost to Woodhall who Calzaghe beat. Harding atsch When Calzaghe beat Jones, Jones was Ring LHW #6 and a bigger win than Harding etc for Jones. Eubank was a better win than Toney and has a better resume Mkertchyan was a more accomplished fighter than Harding and achieved more in their respective divisions. Note Calzaghe beat Jones also and Hopkins when he was a somebody. Calzaghe also has other world class fighters on his resume as does Jones a but Calzaghe has a better SMW resume, a better LHW victory than any of Jones, won away, was a genuine champ in 2 divisions rather than a paper champ in 4 divisions Why do you you have a ? by Woodhall and Veit. Woodhall was a world class fighter who had beaten Branco (future WBA LHW champ), Catley (future WBC SMW champ) Malinga WBC champ, Nardiello world class former WBC SMW champ. Woodhall only lost a close decision to future 3 time WBC champ Beyer having Marcus hanging on at the end. The win Calzaghe had over Veit was a very good victory. The first time Calzaghe beat Veit, Veit was 30-0 and hadnt beaten anyone of real note, hence he was blown away in a round by Calzaghe. When Calzaghe beat Veit a 2nd time Veit was an accomplished world rated 45-1 fighter who had some solid victories behind him, and was top 10 rated. Veit had beaten undefeated Dziarra who wasnt a great fighter but did go on to beat L Mock and undefeated M Oral who would go on to challenge MW champs A Abraham and S Sylvester recently. Veit had also beaten beaten undefeated Guerrero for the European union title. Veit beat future title challenger Salem and Mock. Veit also beat world rated C Brewer with an educated destructive 9th round KO. A note on Veit. He only ever lost to world champs or fighters who became world champs and has victories over Mock, Salem, Perdermo (a future Kessler challenger), Brewer when Brewer was world rated and Veit beat undefeated Braehmer who is now the current WBO LHW champ due for a unification fight in JAN 2011. Since not happend due to illness A good Calzaghe victory over a mandatory world class SMW Also a great away victory for Calzaghe in Germany Also note that 5 of the victorys you note for Calzaghe were away wins. Never looked at the full picture before until now, but Calzaghes resume is very comparable to Jones
You **** checking *****, JT is an under acheiver much like zab judah so prove he is an over acheiver or do one.
I just did - receiving gift decisions during your title reign is generally a benefit to your career. There's nothing else Toney could have achieved in the lower weights.
Eubank/Malinga wasn't close. Eubank ran away with it easily. Eubank looked sensational in the first four rounds against Thornton, but Tony got used to the style and won the next four rounds. Thornton was actually winning the 9th as well, until Eubank found something at the end of the round to wobble Thornton against the ropes and steal the round. Eubank edged the 10th, and then literally ran away for the last two rounds - even physically turning his back and running. He knew his title and record were safe with a draw. I scored Eubank/Thornton a draw. I thought Tony showed very good skill - very good footwork, cutting off the ring. A very good defense, peek-a-boo. And a very good right hand lead - very sneaky, and very hard. Eubank, showed extremely sharp punching and excellent ring and head movement for the first four rounds. Thornton pressured him so much, he didn't stop coming and it was like his bald head was made of concrete.
Did someone say that Sakio Bika was a comparable win to Virgil Hill for Roy Jones? Holy **** wtf is wrong with this forum Calling Reggie Johnson a bum? Asking who the hell did Virgil Hill beat anyways? WTF? Joe's victory over Eubanks is better than Jones over Toney? Holy ****... Calzaghe dickeiders are ****in atrocious
Every single fighter in Jones top ten is better than Sheika, Woodhall, Veit, Brewer and Robin Reid....that's five fighters out already I'd like you to try and dispute this? I know you can't....I'll be waiting. Malinga lost to Woodhall? Of course he did because Malinga was 42 years old and well past his best in 1998. A well past his best Malinga also beat your precious prime Robin Reid in 1997....
