No. If Calzaghe is to fight one more SMW, it has to be Bute. We've seen Kessler. Let's see Bute.

Bute might not be as good as Kessler but because of styles this fight would be close-ish too. Good fight!:good

It's not as simple as that.

Kessler is human last I checked. :nono Human beings are capable of self-appraisal and experiential learning.

Kessler has already stated he would completely re-vamp his approach and study his stylistic failures to establish a more successful formula.

    Won't happen, IB!:verysad

More chance of Calzaghe v. Bute than Calzaghe v. Kessler. Calzaghe v. Bute chance is less than 5%.

Well anything left for Kess to accomplish now will be second-guessed with that albatross around his neck. :(

Yes. All this has done is make me upset.

And the poll's phrasing was bad, as I said.

It's a loss to a Calzaghe you yourself called quite shot. You barely gave Joe any credit for the win and said it reflected more on Kessler's lack of elite quality than anything else, as I recall. :huh

Though I am pleasantly surprised that you see Kessler standing a good chance at cleaning up Bute, Froch, Inkin, Pavlik et al.

That would be nice. But an even closer fight with Calzaghe (even if it just meant winning one more round this time) using different strategies would not only be entertaining to watch but solid for both men's legacy.

If Kessler cannot modify his style sufficiently to exploit Calzaghe's weaknesses, if he freezes again and if he fights scared to lose again, he was overrated to start of with.

I think he's good enough to make the necessary changes to make is much closer, whatever Calzaghe comes up with, on the night, even assuming Calzaghe could come in as hungry and well-prepared for the rematch.

    Not 70%, Blocky.

If he was at 70 % he would lose to a guy like Mayorga. Two weight divisions lighter and two steps back in class.

Guys at this level NEVER come in at 70%. If he was at less than 90 %, the fight would be postponed. I'm guessing he's always somewhere between 94 and 99% of his possible best.

I think based on what I've read previously of Blocky's take on this, he didn't mean 70% of current potential, but rather 70% as good as he was in his prime. Blocky is convinced that current JC is but a scant shadow of his prime self, and that anybody he's beaten in the last however many years would've been blown out or stopped early by a younger Joe with faster reflexes and less brittle hands.

There's no doubt his slide has begun.

It's evident he's lost a step or two in his last few fights. But he's far from shot, and he would probably like to walk away without getting to that stage.
