I actually sort of agree with Blocky - physically, the wear and tear of age has begun to show, sure. And yes, he's been forced to compensate for that with cunning and fleet-mindedness, but where we diverge is how we rate his effectiveness with diminished reflexes and power but increased reliance on craftiness. I still think he's unbeatable at 168 and nearly so at 175, in his current form.

I'll love to see Kessler Calzaghe 2, Kessler can't perform that bad again, still most of the rounds was wery close. I go for Kessler. ( surprise ):D :smoke

Nothing to do with Kessler's jab. Kessler did best against Calzaghe when he was counterpunching as Calzaghe was coming in, using uppercuts and big shots to the body. This is how he won some rounds even after Calzaghe found a way of beating him. e.g. round 12.

If Kessler fights as he did in those winning rounds or as he did in round 12, irrespective of what Calzaghe does, he will win 5-6 rounds and maybe even win the fight.

Don't be surprised if you see a more adaptable Kessler. He has never needed to be adaptable before Calzaghe. He knows he would in a rematch. It's naive to think he wouldn't be moe versatile. Also, he would no longer fear losing and would fight with much more authority. When he did that against Calzaghe, he won rounds.

I voted Kessler, but unless something was wrong with Kessler that day, I fail to see how - Calzaghe beat Kessler with the danes best weapon, and pretty much nullified Kesslers boxing most of the fight.

Still believe that it was one of Calzaghe best boxing matches - the fact that he made weight so easily - made me believe that Calzaghe does get better and is better trained when he faces true danger.

You make it sound like Kessler was worried about everything but the fight itself - at this level, it's as much a mental game as a physical one, and if he can't handle that sort of stuff (boss in hospital, wrong anthem, being robbed, etc.) after 39 pro-fights, then maybe he's in the wrong line of work :hey

BTW - I picked Joe to win in a rematch - Calzaghe goes in knowing he has Kessler's number. Kessler, while young enough to learn and develop from his loss to Calzaghe, can't learn at a rate fast enough to catch up with Calzaghe. Another factor - Kessler has been inactive since the loss, so he's not exactly getting the opportunity to try out what he may have learned from that loss.

Kessler is not an Elite fighter, Joe is an elite fighter...Kessler doesn't beat any top fighter at any point of his career. Let him carry on conning the European public with Mundine and Beyer.

    Well a few points.

First of - the fight will never be

    1. Calzaghe is too old - by the time Kessler has earned a rematch/ made a rematch make sence (by for instans unifying or beating Taylor/Pavlik) Calzaghe will have retired.

    2. Calzaghe doesn't do rematches - especially not against Kessler - he said so after the fight. Reason: I'm not getting better - Kessler is, and I'm not getting younger either...

If the fight should happen, then much depends on Kessler - how much did he learn that night? The fight was pretty close and it wouldn't take that much to turn it. Kessler is good at learning - doing what his trainer tells him to. If he gets a proberb trainer and of course corner then I'd pick him over Calzaghe - especially as Calzaghe isn't getting younger.

But Kessler has other places to go - he shouldn't go after Calzaghe - that ship has sailed and Kessler seems pretty clear on that to - he isn't calling Calzaghe out - although he of course has stated several times that he would like a rematch - which I have no doubt he'd take given the chance.

I also think that Kessler would do poorly in the pre fight mind games department vs Joe. Joe's confidence never wavers, Kessler would have to be doubting himself somewhere along the line.

Calzaghe has showed some weakness against Hopkins. When Calzaghe throws those "wingining" punches he can be countered from a straight right, which got him knocked down. Kessler has a very good straight right, if he can time his punches correctly, he can hurt Calzaghe, and Kessler is much more agressive than Hopkins which he should take advantage of. Kessler should study the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight if they happen to rematch again.

Kessler doesn't move like Hopkins and iseasier to hit. Try again.
