A question I'm very curious about but never thought about much. Leading up to this fight who was the favorite going in?, was it Kessler by a mile like I hear from certain Calzaghe or was it close like the Calzaghe/Lacy fight?

No I wasn't following the sport closely at the time and wasn't paying much attention to it the same entire year to be honest so any answers would be highly appreciated since we have lots of Kessler and Calzaghe fans here.

    Thanks.

    Calzaghe was a narrow favourite.

Calzaghe made Kessler look like a fool.

Looks like you're setting up a strawman argument here. Who exactly has claimed that Kessler was favourite by a mile?

Well fans are often on one side or the other and don't worry about sitting on the fence. If you want to go by the bookmakers take on both fights then Lacy was a slight favourite over Calzaghe and then Calzaghe was favoured by about the same margin, perhaps a lot more, over Kessler. In no way was Kessler the favourite. Not by the bookies or the majority of pundits anyway.

I think the odds might have been around what they are for Mayweather and Pacquiao at the moment. Which is 8/11 for Mayweather and 11/10 for Pacquiao.

    This.

Kessler was no way the favourite 'by a mile'. Whoever it was that claimed that was completely wrong and is just trying to hype up the victory.

Calzaghe was a narrow favoite, the odds on Kessler drifted to 2/1 in the days before the fight.

Calzaghe was the favorite, but not by much. Everyone felt that Kessler was a very worthy adversary.

Calzaghe was a slight favourite. What some people do forget is he was a big underdog to Jeff Lacy, I got 2/1 on Calzaghe to win at the bookies near my house, when British bookies make the British fighter the underdog you know he's got no chance. Usually.

i think as it was announced it was pretty even, maybe kess slight favourite. but as it got closer an closer to fight night calzaghe became favourite by a decent margin. there was a never a clear favourite but at the time of the fight calz was slight favourite.

Was supposed to have been a very dangerous fight for Calzaghe, but it turned out to be easy for Calzaghe, but Calzaghe makes his fights look easy.

I really miss seeing Calzaghe fight. He was very entertaining to watch, so much natural talent.
