That includes the Brits specifically, did the new Calzaghe fanboys originally plump for the American? :think :smoke
Nope not even close to considering it, these forums made hilarious viewing Kessler I was worried, I was only 65-35 Joe :smoke
I went for jeff and I though he had a punchers chance , but I knew that he had been taking too many punches in past fights would be a huge issue, His fight with Rubin showed just how poor his Defense and Combo punching had declined since leaving Bloodworth.
I was a huge Lacy fan and I picked him to win by KO. I have learned my lesson and won $$ on Calzaghe against Kessler and will support Calzaghe against B-Hop while betting on the over 11.5 rounds.
i was there, sat in the heavens behind a row of yanks. oh the **** they were talking before the fight in contrast to their faces as the destruction unfolded was beautiful.... the best atmospheres i've ever experienced at a big fight actually.
:rofl To my eternal shame I was expecting a Lacy victory as I felt Joe was poor against Ashira and that Veit was so bad you couldn't take anything from that fight. (the definition of upright euro style and all thats wrong with it!) So I expected a Lacy victory without actually having seen him fight!atsch In my defence I was far less of a boxing fan in those days, my time on these boards have increased my knowledge of boxing greatly.
I thought Joe would win but gotta admit that I hadn't seen much of Lacy at all and actually half-believed the hype around how destructive he was. I don't think Lacy was that bad...he was definitely top 5 in the division. I don't think i'll ever see such a one-sided fight between the top two fighters in any division. Heavenly performance.
I went for Joe. But I figured he may have one or two dodgy moments early and pull it out late. I thought he would win 9-3/8-4, with it being reasonably competitive. I was wrong, :rofl
I didn't know much about Lacey but thought Calzaghe was on the slide. Watching footage of this massive ******* knocking people out made me fear Calzaghe's time may have come. Don't mind admitting it, I've learned to be more weary of hype these days.
I remember these forums around the time of Calzaghe-Lacy, wasn't a member then, but they were full of guys saying Lacy was going to demolish Joe Cal-slappy!
I went for Jeff Lacy but I can excuse it somewhat because he's from hometown. I was on this site during the prefight buildup and there was hardly anyone, Brits included, that were openly picking Calzaghe. Hell, even the bookmakers in England were favoring Lacy. The vast majority on this site were either picking Lacy or choosing to say nothing in regards to Calzaghe. Even in the British boxing section there was a distinct aura of concern. Face it. Just about everyone thought Lacy was going to win.
