Quite a few people on here picked Lacy to TKO Joe in one round. I think most people thought Lacy would win, on here i would say 90% in favour of Lacy. Only "China hand Joe" had total confidence in a JC victory.

I hadn't really seen Lacy fight and have followed JC from very early in his career when he DID used to hit really hard, only a few clips i had seen of Lacy and i did think he would beat Joe the way he was spoken of with his Punch Power. I was on holiday when they fought, and got the result the next day, but didn't realise what a one sided fight it was till i watched it when i got home. I couldn't believe it to be honest.

I don't think anyone could....except for those who knew he was a fraud all along (bullshitters).

i'll be honest, i thought lacy would win. i had'nt seen calzaghe fight at all aside from a few clips, and lacy was tearing through the division during the time.

I have to agree with you, he was the new Tyson, no one said Lacy was a fraud, only Calzaghe was the fraud.

I came back to ESB specifically for this fight.

I picked JC by UD with my general assesment being that I felt Joe had the ability to evade Lacy's assaults and the skill to land on him.

Joes brittle hands and moderate power were enough to convince me he wouldn't stop him.

Its funny how everyone seems to be a genius in hindsight though. The only one I remember really broadcasting their pick of Joe was Max Molyneux.

China hand Joe wasn't even a member at that point.

I guess the people who chose Joe chose Douglas to hammer Tyson too?

I was never interested in the match because the Super MW division is a garbage/pit stop division.

That is not a good comparison. Joe was clearly the more skilled fighter, but many felt he was past it and others had not seen him fight (which is a fairly stupid way to call a fight).

i went for lacy.i don't think joe had been too impressive in his recent fights and i thought he was just on the slide and wouldn't be able to keep the younger guy off.just shows what the f*** do i know.

Ill be honest in saying even though I went for Joe, I thought at the time I was following my heart instead of my head. I knew Lacy was a strong *******, but just had a feeling Joe could win.

Im glad my little inclination came true.

Initially I have to admit I thought Lacy would take it out.

I weighed it all up and thought well joe was taller, faster, a southpaw, more fluid, more skilled, had a proven chin, more experienced and at home but I disregarded all these advantages because I thought Joe's age and the fact he hadnt been in with a high quality of opposition in the couple of years preceding this fight.. making him..a little soft. I likened it to a muscle not being properly worked, meaning it wouldnt be as strong. Sounds a bit stupid now.
Only a few weeks, maybe a month out from the fight a few posters started to convince me that all those advantages would come into play. In most of the final polls I voted for Calzaghe by close decison or Calzaghe by decision or Calzaghe would win it and Id make a comment that it would be really close. No way did I see what he did that night coming.

I put my vote down as a Lacy pick however because for a while there I argued he would win, only really renigging closer to the fight. Though I wouldnt have been in any kind of shock if Lacy had won at the time.

We all get it wrong sometimes.

No way 54% picked Joe for that one. There was a sizable minority but I remember some early polls had something like 80% of respondants picking Jeff, I probably would have been one of them.

And believe me I was not on the Jeff Lacy hype train, just didnt realise Joe was still that good.

I thought Lacy was going to knock his block off in three rounds or less.

I think 95 percent of the posters here did too - someone is not being honest in that poll.
