Just a thought, but these two taking swipes at each other at every opportunity couldn't be a little ploy to build the fight up before they announce it early next year could it?!?! It just could be....what do you guys think....? I'm torn to be honest. Does Calzaghe beleive he has enough to defeat Pavlik or is he scared of losing his beloved 0 ?? Over to you..:bbb
JC will not fight Pavlik. If he does not retire he will chase the easier big money fight in Jermaine Taylor.
I said before in a general forum thread I believe Calzaghe will fight again after the Jones fight. He defenitley feels he is reaching the end of the road - good for him it has been a good successful career and he is now 36. However he said he was going to retire at 30 years old - I remeber him actually saying it at the time on RINGSIDE Skys Boxing programme back in about 1998 "I'll ger out of the game BEFORE I'm 30" Joe is now in a postion where every fight he has is going to be worth millions That is why now he is seeing out his career in America - BIG MONEY He has been complaining in the paper he has not made no where near enough money as a 11 years World Champion should. He is saying this because he is feeling the discontent by comparing himself to the likes of Naseem Hamed who earned around £30-£40 million over his short career. However Calzaghe has never been box office like Hamed was - he should stop comparing himself - he has done well for what he is - a guy with zero personailty. He has also comprised on what he was saying earlier. Roy JOnes would be his last fight. BUt now the tune has changed slightly. Its Roy Jones - after that who knows - but its defently my last year in boxing. So in other words - he may be tempted to have another fight if the offer is good enough. Pay him the millions and this Pavlik fight can happen. However I think Pavliks stock is going to fall in OCtober cos I think Hopkins is going to school him However taking into account Calzaghes struggle and very unsure win over Hopkins. Can you imagine if Pavlik does a number on Hopkins and defeats him convincingly. Then the demand for Calzaghe to fight Pavlik would be very loud - otherwise he is going to look like a shithouse
Pavlik seems a decent bloke but the way the Yanks over on the GF have latched onto him because they have no decent heavyweights makes me want to see him get beat, pref. by Calzaghe.
I agree, unless JC declines significantly from the Kessler fight then he'll have too much for Pavlik. He wasn't at his best for the Hopkins fight but its hard to tell if that was age catching up with him or Hopkins being a crafty old fighter and making Calzaghe look bad.
i think if calzaghe beats jones and he looks impressive in doing it then he will box again!!!!! i guess its in the blood!!!!
I'm not convinced Pavlik beats Hopkins and Calzaghe could lose too, so the fight may not look as attractive in a few months.
I'd love to see it but I really doubt Calzaghe would fight Pavlik. If he does fight again it would be against someone like Glen Johnson.
Ok so what if Pavlik loses to B-Hop and JC steamrollers RJJ? Could a big win for Froch against Pascal put him in with a shot at JC?? It could be the perfect way for JC to end his career (plus i'd love to see Froch get slapped about the ring for 12 rounds :rofl )?
If Both win then expect it to happen. Joe says he don't want it but he'll be massacred for ducking Kelly. Not only that but he claims people won't remember Kelly in 20 years. If he beats Hopkins, I'm damn sure they will remember him. He became linear 160 champ then beat an all time top 5 160 champ. Joe can't avoid this.
I think Pavlik will beat Hopkins and Joe will beat Jones. Then Pavlik and Joe will be made. NO WAY Joe is going to 'avoid' a huge payday, he hasn't fought all these years to turn down the mega money has he? Pavlik should be tailor made for Joe, straightforward one two merchant. I like Pavlik a lot btw, he has nice power in that right and he's got balls and patience. He sticks to his plan. But he is what he is - straightforward. I think Joe will fight on until he loses a few, I wouldn't be surprised to see Hatton do the same. The lure of the money is too great.
