As I said, I'd still give him a chance, it all depends on Jones rather than Calzaghe. To even be able to suggest that after all Jones has done shows the difference in level here.
I'm not going to go into anything too long here, but here are some misconceptions you have(or the other guy who was saying Calzaghe would destroy Jones). Jones actually had 12 fights at SMW, they just weren't in succession. 10 ended by KO. Calzaghe is somewhat slower than Jones at SMW, but it's not glaring. What IS glaring is that Jones throws each punch with power, where as Calzaghe actually increases his speed by putting less power on his shots. Their speed to power ratios are not close. You are looking at tape and seeing that Jones had time to do what he wanted, and you see where Calzaghe could pressure him and not give him that time. The reason Jones has that time is because pressuring Jones meant taking punches coming in and on the way out, and with his power, that was a silly proposition. Remember, Jones had 33 wins and 29 KO's before going to LHW to face larger men. He stunned Ruiz. Griffin actually effectively pressured Jones for a while due to his unothodox defensive shell. Eventually Jones figured him out, before getting DQ'd. Jones footspeed doesn't allow for effective pressure, and his handspeed and power kept you at bay. Calzaghe is not going to bring anything to the table other than workrate as an advantage, and it's not enough. He squares up too much and will get tagged alot. Kessler hit him flush, so Jones would hit alot. And to the guy who said Kessler had more power or equal power to Jones....based on what?
Just to put that into perspective, that's exactly the same KO rate that Tyson had after 33 fights - and Kessler hit harder than Jones? Bull****.
Posters who give Calzaghe much chance against prime Jones can't have seen Jones during that prime. The two guys were on different levels.
Calzaghe wins going away, too fast, too strong and too smart for RJJ, great fighter tho he was. and this would be and RJJ that beat a prime James toney? would this be the same Toney that openly ducked both Benn and Eubank after excepting both of their challenges on Live TV the week before they rematched in 1993.
Calzaghe fans talking about other fighters ducking is almost (but not quite) as priceless as Hatton fans complaining about Floyds dirty in-fighting :rofl
