although they are indeed leagues apart in skill level, Cal would last the 12 rounds and wouldnt stop trying, hes already proved he does that. Tbh though I think SRR would drive Cal to tears if they did fight. Cal would kinda realise just how lacking a boxer he was skillwise, he would be frightened like when he was with Bhop early on. Will stress the point again though - it just wouldnt ever happen in the Land of Hypothetica. Joe Cal was too smart to take a fight with someone whjo can beat him.
I wouldn't argue that. I do feel that it's neautralised slightly by the size difference, the fact that Joe was not unskilled himself, and that Robinson did have flaws.
the guy who made this thread is acually unequivocally the stupidest human being to ever traverse the face of god's green earth. he and bald toad are too stupid for their own good without a doubt.
Amazing today's fan , he can point out Sugar Ray Robinosn's flaws but fails to mention all of Joe's . Must be overly impressed with his fluffy undefeated record .
This is what's wrong with rose tinted glasses, Robinson is one of the GOAT but people ignore the flaws that he did have, and see him as some un-beatable machine that could steam role through anything that the modern day has to offer. I've not even suggested that Calzaghe wins, just that he's highly competitive. Flaws like : Ray lost to fighters much lesser than himself, albeit rarely. This shows that the man was not always totally foccused. If he has an off night with Joe Calzaghe then he's in real danger. As he moved up to MW, he could be outmatched for physical strength. Fulhmer did it and so did LaMotta. Joe Calzaghe a SMW would of been stronger than Robinson in my view. Calzaghe has certain physical advantages here too, such as height, mass, and length, these are important factors. Again, I've not said Calzaghe wins, but it's laughable to assume that he wouldn't have moments with Robinson, and would in fact just be along for the ride.
Robinson destroys him. He had the legs to corner him, the speed to catch him, and the power in a terrific counter left hook to flatten him. It's not even close.
Again, I'm only arguing that Calzaghe is competitive, not that he wins. Yes he had flaws, as does every fighter. I respect the History of this sport, but I don't push it so far from the present as others do.
People can call me crazy, but I really wouldn't put down any money on this. SRR was a fairly small middle, and Calzaghe was big for 168. There would be a significant size difference here, without taking into account Calzaghe's insane workrate and physicality as a fighter. SRR can pull it out because he was that much better, but a great smaller fighter CAN lose to a good bigger fighter. Plus it's my Birthday.
watch the turpin, jones and lamotta fights, robinson got beat up by bigger guys , i watched that fight, robinson was too exhausted to continue against the jewish great maxim who was a true LHW hes a WW or small MW at best, he wouldnt win 15 rounds vs calzaghe:roflatsch
robinson would be a JMW in todays boxing and he knocks out calzaghe that fought Hopkins in a couple rounds ?
First off, LaMotta and Turpin were better fighters than Calzaghe and he beat them in returns, the Jones fight was when after a 3 year retirement and when Robinson was 34 years old. He was exhausted against Maxim because he had been dominating Maxim the whole fight with combinations and punched himself out because of the heat in the arena.
