Tough one. I favour GGG by stoppage.

joe waited years, constantly laughing off Kessler saying unified wbc and wba champ mikkel wasn't worthy of a shot at joes wbo title... then waited for Kessler to get injured and only then swooped to fight him in Cardiff with his corrupt judges and ref.

basically uninjured Kessler gave calzaghe brown trousers 24/7. And with good reason, even in cardiff, kess was up against joe until his hand gave up on him.

Calzaghe UD, all day, every day. GGG is a damn good fighter but Joe excelled against come forward fighters. Plus the size and reach advantage is in his favour. Also, what proof do we have that GGG's power will carry to SMW? The name Arthur Abraham ring any bells? An absolute machine at MW. so-so at SMW. Until GGG fights either Froch, Ward or another top SMW, my opinion will not change. Sorry GGG fans and Calzaghe haters. Just the way I see it.

He fought Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins. Why wouldn't he fight GGG?

Hopkins at 43, joe thought he was getting shot that's why.

Kessler because he had a hand injury AND Kessler stupidly was happy to fight in Cardiff with Joe's setup.

Lacy again in Cardiff, and lets be honest, who wouldn't figth lacy? So you really mean just Kessler and Hopkins.

Lacy was a bum, Hopkins beat him, but Cazaghe chose to fight him at age 43. Kessler was a decent opponent, but not a Froch, or a Ward.

He still fought them. Why would Joe not be willing to fight GGG who is smaller than those guys and has a less impressive resume than them?

P.S. And Kessler was "a Froch".

Kessler lost to Froch in their first fight, got a hometown decision. Fighing 43 year old BHop is like fighting Ali at 36, Ya great you beat Ali, but not prime Ali.

2 things from a non Calzo fan.

    1. For those saying Calzaghe only fought bums, Lacy and Kessler were supposed to humiliate and KO him. He beat Lacy up and comfortably beat Kessler.

    2. The Hopkins robbery. Hopkins had to win 6 rounds for the W thanks to a KD. I challenge any forum member to tell me exactly which 6 rounds B Hop won. If it was a robbery this should be an easy exercise.

It was a very close fight whoever you scored it for so they are clearly on a similar level prime for prime.

He was still one of the best in the world and in his previous two fights had beaten Winky Wright and Antonio Tarver who are better than anyone GGG has beaten. Hopkins went on to beat Pavlik and Pascal who are also better than anyone GGG has beaten.

You keep dodging the question, why would Calzaghe be afraid to fight GGG when GGG is smaller and less accomplished than guys he did fight?

Calzaghe was a calculated fighter, had no pressure from british public to fight the big names when it was necessary.
