at one point in time I was hoping joe would come back and get his ASS kicked by one of the young guns to shut up his fans who clearly overrate him. But that would do absolutely nothing because they would say that he lost because he was on crack and the pre-crack Joe would beat the Kbros, LL and Ali in the same ring at the same time . . . he is as big a hype job as lacy and the robotic Kessler. He was only a regional champ who beat guys who made their names in the same region. That being said I do think he is a very, very good fighter just not as good as his fan base thinks (think ricky).

He barely beat (I think he lost) an Old Bhop who made a name for beating over hype fighters. fighters like Tarver (who made a name by being the first to show how shot RJJ was), Pavlik (who made a name by beating the guy who beat Bhop{better then Joe 2x}, Winky who was an excellent fighter but was really only a badly Blown up Jr Middleweight. I think Bhop was far from his best (before the tito fight almost 8 years before their fight).

He beat a sad, very sad RJJ who should have been put out to pasture after the johnson fight. The version that Joe beat should be looked at as a minus on his resume ( he should have fought Froch . . . who would have bet . . . but he ducked him like Bhop is ducking Dawson).

To summarized Joe owned the SMW division . . . which nobody cared about outside of the region (fans or fighters) at his time. He cannot beat Ali, LL, the Kbros, godzilla and Jesus. When he did decide to fight elite fighters he waited until they were well past there prime and on shot all to hell

 

Joe Calzaghe would lacerate steroid junkie Wards face, and this is now, a prime Calzaghe Ko's him, a shot Calzaghe that smashed Hopkins probably stops him, Ward isn't in the same class.

last year, yesterday or today joe beats Ward. Any true boxing fan knows the value of slick footwork & ward aint got **** in that dept only speed and a heavy head.

I don't know if any of you have noticed but Joe doesn't stand in front of you like a bloody mannequin the guy can move feet and body. Ward would be made to look like a child in that ring; styles make fights and yeah he beat Kessler better than Joe but that was a faded as **** Kessler and over 2 years later. Joe's style is everything that would trouble Ward.

Whatever though, let the man continue to use his head like a 3rd arm while everyone praises him. As the saying goes you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink it.

 

Exactly, and he beatKessler using Joes blueprint, which Joe adapted midway through his fight! Ward also was on steroids and headbutted the hell out of kessler, and Kessler was inactive for 18months.

Joe would toy with him like he did RJJ and Hop.

You guys are way overrating Calzaghes power, Kabary Salem, Robin Reid and Sakio Bika all gave Joe fits and took him the distance.

Ward takes him the distance, as for a technical breakdown of the fight, I'll keep it short by saying it'd probably be a very competetive fight thrughout, with Joe edging it for me.

 

Bika is very tough, Reid fought Joe when Joe had a broken hand!

How many people does Eubank praise for their punch power? Prime Joe had huge KO power.

 

No way Joe can come back and beat someone like Ward - he has been out for way too long and Ward is one of the best current SMWs.

Ward still has a long way to go to be considered as good as Joe was in his prime though.

 

Calzaghe is not stupid, if he was to come back he would have a warm up, there is no way he would walk into a fight with B-Hop or Ward and put his 0 on the line, his whole career tells us this.

However, I find threads like this so hypothetical, I mean there is no one on here that can say what Calzaghe will be like if he ever came back, there are far too many variables.

All that can be said is that the Calzaghe that beat RJJ would beat Ward at this point.

 

I wonder if the people who are picking Ward are factoring experience ? Unless there are signs of Joe slipping I don't see what Ward does to beat Joe .

 

First of all..Andre ward won the fight against kessler maily because kessler boxed the worst fight in his career.And because ward was better on the night..But why should we forget the Referee was doing absolutly NOTHING about serius headbutting that cost kessler 3!!! cuts.. 2 over each eye,and 1 under the right eye... Look at kessler eyes after these headbutts,and tell me do you think it is the way to do in a titlefight in super 6???
If it haad been the other way around, Kessler headbutting ward the same way,Kessler would probably facing 6 years in a stateprison!!!

Ward was a coward *****,that he did what he did with those several headbutts....And the referee should never be in the ring again in a titlefight!!!

Before J.C retired i think he would win a fight with Ward... But now after he has been away from boxing, i don´t know... a fight with J.C would show where he is right now
