Calzaghe late round KO, Wlad's stamina can't hold up to the constant pressure, referee stops fight after slaptastical 400 punch combination leaves Wlad gasping against the ropes. Presuming current Calzaghe obviously. Prime Calzaghe CracksChinaChin1 Wlad. Like Sanders but more brutal.
Joe Calzaghe will be remembeted with guys like Sven Ottke. Both had miserable career of fighting their backyards nobodies despite having change prove them selfes in their primes against quality opposition. #1 Wlad, Calzaghe did accomplish close to nothing. Joe had 1 Real Quality guy who was 44 years old, that's it..
I think its Kessler who is the best on his resume. Cal is one of my fav boxers and if promoted better he could've achieved much more. His promoters didnt believe in him or smth but he should've accelerated his career a bit faster.
If Wlad retires tomorrow... It would be Calazaghe. He's undefeated, and he at least shared the ring with great fighters, albeit very past their prime great fighters. Wlad never fought anyone great, not even anyone who used to be great. He's only just now coming out of being defined more by his losses. He puts together a few more years of consistent winning, and I think he will, then he'll probably be rated above Calzaghe.
Wlad's ATG status isn't even unarguable yet. Calzaghe is even an arguable case. So, I can't see throwing a number on them but Calzaghe would certainly be higher. And this is coming from someone who likes Wlad as a person and is annoyed by Calzaghe. I have no axe to grind with Wladimir.
This comparison is another argument as to why these ATG ratings are highly questionable. They had different careers, different weight classes, different circumstances. Calzaghe was great through incredible consistency. Even top ATG's like Louis and Ali had their losses to far lesser opponents, Schmeling, Norton. Calzaghe didn't beat fighters as great as some of Ali's wins, but also wouldn't lose to a fighter or Norton's level. Wlad now is as dominant as any great HW during their prime. How can it be objectively said that he beats nobodies? Maybe some of his opponents could have had excelletn careers had they not run into Wlad. Sometimes two fighters elevate each other due to exciting fights and a lot of media hype, Holyfield - Bowe comes to mind, but Golota was a good reality check for those that overrate that trilogy in terms of class (not in terms of excitement and heart). Wlad also fights at a weightclass where a bad night or underestimating an opponent can easily result in being KTFO'd, something a super middle isn't likely to encounter. On the night of the Sanders fight, I don't think any HW in the world could have outpointed Wlad, but that's HW boxing. Both had very good careers, both more through consistency than through the one hyped career defining fight.
Wlad gets alot of credit, because he is a HW, and alot of Americans recognise him because he beats alot of the bums from over there, which sometimes neglects the tough European scene, all the same Wlad is a class top HW, but dosent rule the HW division on his own, but with his brother, and it seems there accomplishments often get taken as a joint thing rather than individually. Due to Wlad being beaten by a journeyman on the way up and being heavily KOd a couple of times I would rate Calzaghe higher for cleaning out the SMW division, a tough division in Europe and beating one of the main LHWs for the Ring belt, and never losing even on off nights. Calzaghe
:rofl:rofl:rofl What in the ****! First off the thread was about all time great status and not who would win in a fight and secondly, and most importantly - seek help! There is no way on this earth, or any other planet for that matter, that slappy Joe KO's Waldo. None, zip, never going to happen! :nut
Ignore the Brits, Wlad takes it for every lucid guy. Wlad stays victorious rest of his career he will pass Joe by miles... Sven Ottke~Calzaghe
I think people often misunderstand a joke or sarcasm on these threads, ive been guilty of both myself. But seriously Joe would spank Wlad. Prime Joe early KO and Joe at the end of his career by middle round KO. As for resumes, as already said on post #11 Calzaghe
