I stopped caring about what people in the USA of america think many years ago. They'll always try and discredit anyone not their own.

The way to discredit Winky is this: He's too old, on the slide, is a blown up Light Middle, is a weak puncher, fat at the weight... etc etc.. Calzaghe gets little credit for a win in yankee doodle land but he wouldn't anyway.

The fight would also be in the UK (far more money) so it still doesn't stop the "he's never foought in the US" rants. There's no point at this stage trying to play impress the yankees... and this fight does nothing much for his British legacy. That's why a fight with Woods is far more appealing. Woods has a belt, there's local interest, a different weight for Joe, bigger crowds = more money.

The more I think about this, the more I think (hope) this announcement is the bargaining process for Hopkins.

No matter what fight a guy takes you'll always get some cretins decrying it, thats a given. But I just hate the idea of Joe getting these 'fake' fights on the senior tour. To me its similur to retirement and I have no intrest in it. These are fights for the plebs.

:yep At best - it is! At worst - they're testing the waters...personally, I'm not having any of it. I'd rather see Joe take on Bute at 168, even though Bute himself says, and everyone agrees, he isn't even close to being ready for someone as good as Joe yet...but sure, who the hell is Lucian Bute anyway?? No one's heard of him in the US.

I could accept to see Winky going up to 170 pounds one time in his career, but campaigning there is very different and a huge mistake.

I would rather see JC vs Bute for the complete and current undisputed SMW division than a **** fight against the tiny Wright.

But above all that, there are 3 or 4 better fights than this at 175

please just be a rumour, calzaghe just dominated a much bigger stronger, maybe not as technically gifted fighter in Kessler, wot could WW offer to the table apart from a big name on joes resume to impress the yanks and the television companies. would love to see joe take on pavlik after this, beat on him for 12 rounds and leave the scraps to john duddy to dominate.god i only can dream!
