I remember Mundine's camp coming out and saying that they were negotiating with Frank Warren during all of the haggling between Calzaghe and Kessler's camps. So there's hope this is smoke from Warren.

As a Calzaghe fan I think I've made my position quite clear that it would be a disgrace for Joe to take this fight. It would be as appealing as a Robin Reid rematch!:D

Pavlik won't KO Calzaghe, but he would probably get Wright.

Wright is too old, too immobile.

His hands won't be able to stand the punishment and he ain't gettin backed up.

Winky doesn't punch hard enough to hurt him, at least not to keep him hurt.

Fair enough! It wasn't directed you, for I don't recall you ever having stated that Hopkins wasn't worth Joe's time....several other posters on this site have made such claims.

    :good

I don't think Winky can beat Calzaghe or Pavlik.

I was thinking that Winky was going to wait for the outcome of the Pavlik-Taylor fight and fight the winner.

    Oh well.

I wouldn't mind seeing Calzaghe in there against Winky though.

    Who else should he fight?

an easy defense if true... no way in hell Wright got a chance in a fight like that...

Is Calzaghe staying in SMW on going for the 25 titledefenses fighting decent, but not top opponents - while claiming the big once doesn't dare fight him???

Why would it be a disgrace for Calzaghe to take this fight ?

They've already said its a stay-busy fight for either Hopkins or Pavlik for later in the year because they aint ready for the beginning of the year.

    ****ing hell he cant win

If he takes a stay busy fight against a SMW contender or Woods you guys would be saying OMG HES NOT TAKING ON THE BEST AMERICAN COMPETITION

Now he's got a fight against a p4p american fighter you guys are saying he's a disgrace.

It was a close fight against HOpkins at 170, if anyone thinks Winky hasnt got a chance in this fight they dont have a ****ing clue what they are talking about. That being said JC is still favourite.

Jesus, sometimes this forum is really beyond.

Hopkins vs Calzaghe would've been a superb match 5 years back but Joe just didn't have the name to make the risk worthwhile for Hopkins.
I wish boxing was a properly regulated sport rather than the overly politicised business it is today.

Joe wouldn't be a disgrace for taking this fight, after a long career he's earned the right to a few meaningless missmatches. But thats exactly what this would be, so I wont be watching them.

I believe it would still be a superb match-up (although, definitely not one with a lot of fireworks and certainly not one to appeal to the casual fan).

The subtle genius of these two men will make for a most interesting tactical encounter.

What I am MOST interested in seeing is how Calzaghe reacts to the tricks up Hopkins' sleeve. Can he handle them?

Don't hold your breath, things will only probably get worse.

This is a much better fight than I thought he'd get. I'm quite excited by it. Maybe all the Calzaghe fans will stop downplaying Hopkins's victory over Wright now.
