The answer is every single one of them. To compare the men Joe defended his title against is insulting to their legacy. Its not just the names- its when he beat them. Why couldn't he have fought the Woodhall whom looked sensational beating malinga? Why not fight the Reid that outboxed Wharton? Why not fight the unbeaten Omar Sheika before Tony Booth exposed him as a fraud? Why not fight a prime Byron Mitchell? Why not fight the shaky but dangerous Charles Brewer in a unification when he was on the up? The Malinga that beat Reid? The Catley the beat Beyer? The Thoebela that beat Catley? The Woods that beat Johnson? The Johnson that beat Jones? This could go on forever.

Calzaghe's record is a joke. All this divsion was empty bollocks is an excuse. Every fighter I named was a champion during Calzaghes reign or at least a dangerous contender. But we get Tocker Pudwell and Mcintyre plus a load of damaged goods. His 46-0 record is an insult to the likes of Ricardo Lopez and Chavez and Marciano who preserved there unbeaten records based on there talent and not the poor nature of there matchmaking. There really is no comparision between the true greats and Joe Calzaghe. Calzaghe fans hearts will be in their mouths during this super six comp and I hope Kessler gets chinned as it will further shake the dodgy foundations of Joe's very questionable legacy.

I write this not as a jealous fighter who couldn't carry his jockstrap but as a loyal fan of all thats great about the sport.

When was Calzaghes prime? When was Hopkins prime. It certainly wasn't at light heavyweight and it certainly wasn't in the Mercardo fight.

    See Trinidad fight for details.

"Great" fighters don't find or look for excuses not to, they just fight.

Hopkins had been weight draining for years. The move up in weight took him to a new level.

He was also more skilled by this time. Hopkins will live until he is 120 at least. He is different to other people. Right now he looks to be in his 20s.

I also believe he has taken performance enchancing substances.*

Look at his facial structure. It is not natural and different to what it was.*

He has drug cheat SSM's cheekbones.*

How sad you have to resort to this. It's beyond clutching at straws.

The words you are looking for CHJ is "discipline", "dedication" and "lifestyle". That's why Hopkins "looks in his 20's" and is able to keep going.

You are making it out as if you can simply pick and choose when you fight certain fighers. Woodhall wasn't past it when Calzaghe beat him so it's a good win, the fact that he didn't face him after beating Malinga is just the way it is, boxing politics and timing are the probable main 2 reasons. As a former fighter yourself I thought that would be obvious.

Pudwell was a 24 hour replacement if I remember rightly, easy to pick out his name as another negative towards Calzaghe though eh?

The hate or negativity he gets on this forum from fellow brits is absolutely unbelievable really. You seem very bitter, wishing Kessler (who is a gentleman and an excellent fighter) to be chinned hoping for the likes of that collosal wanker Carl Froch to win the thing says it all really.

As always, excellent stuff Jeff. :good
Great you and Scurla save me a whole lot of typing. (Bit iffy about Kessler being chinned though, as he's a pal of mine but I know where you're coming from!)
Unfortunately though, most of the time it's like arguing against a brickwall because people are only interested in "statisitics" not actual substance or quality...

****, ANY fighter can go 46-0 if engineered correctly and have Frank Warren telling all the Sun readers that you're the greatest thing ever in the history of space and time....

Fair to an extent, but name me one other fighter in the modern era (of any serious standing) that went years and years and years being a victim of "politics" the way Joe apparently did?
If you want fights, you can get fights. By staying at home crying about it and facing Pudwills & McIntyres sure is not going to remedy the situation.

Toffeejack last time I checked Carl Froch was a brit.... but nver mind that, boxing politics only allowed Joe C to box past it opposition- yeah right.

Woodhall looked sensational beating malinga, awful against Nardiello, awful against Catley, awful against Beyer but you claim he was still at the peak of his powers. He'd just loss and struggled to subdue Errol Johnson.

Why on earth would I berate Calzaghe, ask yourself that? I couldn't care less whether he's black, white, brown, yellow, pink or green. I want British boxers to be succesful but I also cannot stand by and listen to the claims of fellow boxing fans that he is an ATG. He's not.

Too many excuses for everything from his stupid record, silly showboating, lack of punch power, susceptable chin, choice of opposition, weight making, etc etc.
