Calzaghe..,what makes him so good?

Me and my mate was asking ourselves this the other day.

He is one of those fighters who looks very beatable but when you get in the ring with him it is completley different.

 

Perfected his craft.

 

a gift decision against bhop, good display against kessler and he beat a totally overrated banger in lacy thats all i can say

o and a terrible display on teh song "miss him now he's gone"

Frank Warren, a weak division, only fighting big names when they past best. Oh and ex trainer of the year Enzo!!

 

His adaptability.

 

i think he had a unique style no one else has or has had

like the talkboxing guy says he fights like a kangaroo and its super effective

 

I think you are all overlooking his huge ego which creates his will to win.

He absolutely refuses to let his opposition get the better of him. When some fighters get hurt or flustered they back off and try to look for openings to get back in the fight. When this happens to Joe his ego gets bruised and he forces himself back into the position where he is on top.

On top of that is his adaptability and boxing brain. If the one method doesn't work he adopts a different tactic.

His ring generalship is 2nd to none and his chin is great. If you watch the times when he has been dropped you can visibly see the moment when the fuzzy headedness switches back to clear vision again. Go watch the Mitchell and Jones KDs to see what I mean.

You can argue all day about his resume but even the top echelon of boxers have been beaten when they were in with supposed inferior opposition. His fitness backs up all these qualities to make, in my opinion, an exceptional fighter.

His only drawback, although I still enjoy watching him do it for the comedy value, is that he is awful at "hotdogging".

When he did that swagger in the Bika match it made my skin crawl.

 

there are probably many that would argue he lost his 0 to hopkins. and he should have re matched robin reid.

the thing about jc is if he was 30 years old now and with Frank, would he be in the super 6? i would doubt it.
