you go too far, Lacy, Kesler and Bika were Calzaghe's legitimate defences. They were the ok to pretty good, plus Reid. Joe only arguably lost to Reid, and beat the others.

its his other 17 defence opponents that were lacking and often subnational, you ought to be complaining about them.

meh. academic point anyway, Joe would be too scared shitless of a loss to face KO4Clev anyway.

Calazhe was a great fighter with speed, could adjust during a fight, but Kovalev would have been a real problem for him.................

Calzaghe had a minor injury before the Lacy fight and considered pulling out, his father convinced him to take the fight regardless. He wasn't scared of Lacy, that's an absurd statement to make given how little respect he showed Lacy in the ring and how badly he beat him, his lack of ambition was just leading him to second-guess whether it was worth taking the fight at all.

Calzaghe was the kind of man who needed someone to motivate him - force him at times - to take the bigger challenges, left to his own devices he was happy just doing his own thing and not exerting himself. This doesn't mean he was scared of anyone it just means that he didn't feel he had to take the big fights if he was making good money fighting nobodies.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Calzaghe was the spiritual successor of Eubank.
