I think he should just retire, nothing to prove!

He'll have to wait around for a challenger to arise with both a true mandate and big a big name. Dawson isn't there yet in either department, mostly because of his controversial win over Johnson. Taylor has a relatively big name but no mandate and is fighting 168. IMO, Erdei, Diaconu, Johnson, and Dawson all need to fight each other and the last man standing should get a shot at Calzaghe.

    Dawson is essentially stuck.

He wants Calzaghe but doesn't have the resume. Well how do you get the resume? By fighting the fighters that he faced off with to buff up your standing in the boxing world. Like whom? Hopkins and Kessler.

So he offers a fight to Kessler and Kessler says no go because the risk of moving up is too much.

Hopkins shoots down the fight because Dawson is a nobody in his eyes (and he's probably right) and so he's out of a fight with Hopkins.

By the time Dawson's resume is "buffed up" to snuff where he could be an attractive option for Calzaghe, Joe will be in his late 30s and by then the fight already has a built in excuse there.

How about Erdei v Johnson and Diaconu v Dawson on the same card, then the winners fight each other 4 months later for the chance at Calzaghe? I know its improbable but it makes the most sense to me.

I'm not sure how that works for Dawson. How would Diaconu bring Dawson closer to a fight with Calzaghe? Not to mention chances are Diaconu would probably get hurt again somehow.

Like I said, Dawson is pretty much stuck now. He'd have to beat Hopkins, Jones Jr, Kessler or someone in THAT sort of echelon to get Calzaghe's true attention. Right now none of those guys are really calling for a fight with him.

Well...he has been hurt twice...and once was against Dawson so it's not like I'm swinging blindly here.
