Only Hobson talking really. I dont think Woods would be at the top of his list when he beats Nard. Though really its a pretty good fight for Joe. It wouldnt be the most difficult for him out there, add another a trinket, recement his claim to the lightheavy crown, plus its a good all Brit clash. I always thought of it as a good back option kind of fight for Joe. If nothing else is on straight away after Nard, something in between while he sees what Pavlik or Roy are doing. Also no shame in it being a farewell fight in Wales. I always liked Woods, More than anything I would actually like to see it more because he would be getting a good payday after a great service to British boxing.
if joe beats hopkins impressively then the american tv companies will want him to fight pavlik as it would be a easy fight to promote and will generate huge interest on both sides of the atlantic
Also if Woods is impressive against Tarver it would give him some name recognition in the states, making it an easier sell.
I think Clinton Woods is perhaps the most underrated boxer in the UK for the past 20 years. It would be a fight I would love to see, whether Clinton could pull it off I don't know!
If Joe faces Woods as his last fight, then he loses all respect from me. If he beats Nard, he could fight anyone he liked. Pavlik would be his best bet, or Dawson. But not Woods.
why would he lose your respect? its a fight the fans want to see. a domestic clash between two greats of the last decade in terms of british fighters. he would not lose my respect. woods is as good a fight as any he can choose after nard IMO
Financially maybe. Woods is a decent fight and I'd like to see it but Pavlik would make for a more exciting fight and Dawson seems so far too be a much more talented fiighter than either of them. Got to get past Hopkins first though.
I've said for ages - be nice if the 2 winners from Saturday could fight each other next (probably Dawson & Woods) while Joe (provided he beats B-Hop) fights RJJ. Then the 2 winners could again meet and you could get a definitive answer to THE MAN at LHW. Would be great.
I totally agree - but there's people out there who still think he can do the job. Plus he's a draw - they could sell 80,000+ here in Wales.
That's like saying to Woods and Dawson: You two slug it out for the right to fight Calzaghe... he's got a bye to the final.
