I think Calzaghe/Woods would be more competitive than either JC/Hopkins or JC/Jones, but you can't fault a guy for seeking out his biggest payday.

Ideally, the winners of this weekend's fights would square off in the fall, at which point Calzaghe would cruise through Jones (likely, IMO), and then the winner of that fight would be a bona fide challenge to Joe in a farewell fight early in 2009. (That's also assuming that mandatory obligations are satisfied.)

    Why disrespect? And why Dawson?

You will sometimes (I think) take the best possible risk/reward scenario in your own life. I realize that doing it all the time will harm your post career rep. Very few fighters takes the hardest possible match-up twice in a row.

Dont expect the die hard fans dream to be fulfilled constantly - But then again, he could he gordian knot, fight Pavlik, fantastic risk/reward scenario

Some american fans loose their sense of objektivity if a boxer is connected to the star-sprangled banner!

Calzaghe for me. It's doubtful Woods beat Glen Johnson in any of their 3 fights.

And is it not the same for Euro fans when a boxer is connected to whatever their nationality is?

    Arguably more-so.

I also think it's funny how Europe and America seem to be the only place to live in this world, and if your a boxing fan, your a european or an american.

Honestly, would hate to be both. Insignificant, or a yank? Na, I'll pass.

Dawson and Pavlik are much bigger fights than Woods. Woods is good, has improved, but is not the type of farewell fight Joe is looking for. He needs the biggest and the best if he wants to be remembered outside of Wales, or Great Britian.

I think you are wrong in a kinda right way (or perhaps the reverse:D )

Most european countries arent that big, neither is their boxing. If they had more B+ level boxers, you are of course absolutely right, theire delusion would be of american standards  With the possible exception of brits

Not being so, you would, to love boxing, have to actually take interest in the sport itself, does that sound mad.

Ups. I guess I offended everyone, with you as the possible exception!

Calzaghe needs to give Jones a shot, that is the biggest money making fight he has out there.
Joens will even travel to Wales to make the fight. and fight at 168.
C'Mon Joe put up or shut up

Calzaghe - Woods is a good fight. Ive wanted to see it for a while, everythng about it makes sense. There will be more call for it after they win their respective upcoming title fights.

Dawson is good, but is untested, I dont think that fight is quite big enough, neither here or even the US. Calzaghe - Woods would atleast be big over here.

Clinton Woods is underrated because of the way the RJJ fight went, but I think that is more a testament of the ability of a peak Roy Jones than it has a peak Clinton Woods. I think he'll look good this weekend and he'll have people talking.

    Calzaghe UD

RJJ is well past it. Let him beat somebody worth while, the MAYBE joe gives him a shot. Calzaghe wouldnt get any credit for this win at this time. Beating old, over weight, welters over 12 rounds doesnt give him the right for a title shot, no matter how good he looked.

Calzaghe easy UD, maybe even TKO.

Why wouldnt he get respect for beating RJ.
Why would he get more respect for beating Bernard, is he happens to beat Bernard your gonna hear that wasnt prime B-Hop etc. So wats the difference. Calzaghe isnt a spring chicken either.
If his objective is to get a big money fight while exposing himself to the american public, then why not fight RJ?
RJ is willing to fight at 168 in Wales at that.
That would b calzaghe biggest pay in his career.
And if its soo easy to beat RJ because hes shot and all the other things, then why not just do it, its easy money right?
If im better, it will probably be the biggest pay date of my career, and I get exposure to the american public, then why not do it?
