Calzaghe beats Bute with ease, Bute ain't fighting anyone and he isn't even looking spectacular doing it

Most people had Hopkins beating him. Then he decided to retire fighting a shadow of Roy Jones.

The guy had talent but no legacy whatsoever. His best win was over lacy who never amounted to anything and Kessler. Kessler who?

His manager, Frank Warren, at the time was telling about how he would pull out of fights all the time at short notice. Dude didn't have the balls to take on the big challenges.

No, most people had Calzaghe winning, I had it 114-113 to BHop, but it was a minority opinion.

Out of everyone mentioned here, Hopkins & Ottke would have given Calzaghe the toughest night.

Forget Froch, he is exactly the kind of fighter Calzaghe looks special against. Boxers who sit on the back foot and look to counter are the only ones likely to trouble Calzaghe. Sven Ottke would have been a difficult fight to win, not a tough gruelling fight, but Ottke was very crafty.

Ward has to do it against a variety of different fighters before I make a definate opinion. You've got to fancy Calzaghe purely based on the experience factor and because he's found a way to beat many many different styles. Anyone can look stellar against Allan Green and there's too many questions about the form/health of Mikkel Kessler for Ward. Don't foget that Calzaghe was able to alter what he was doing several times in a fight depending on the opponent.

Kessler's Wards biggest win & everyone's so impressed they automatically rated him no.1 SMW.

The whole "who Calzaghe should have fought" thing has already been done.

With a greater fighter you wouldn't even have that discussion. Calzaghe fought a list of nobodies and retired fighting a guy he called totally shot in his autobiography. That is his legacy.

Except Hopkins (who beat him), Dawson, Dirrell and Ward. Calzaghe would not match up well with quick, slick boxers, they would expose his lack of skills and technique.

And Glen Johnson would give Calzaghe all he could handle, I've always thought so.

But Calzaghe would beat Froch, Bute, Cloud, Abraham and Pascal for sure.

And 160 fighters are too small for Joe C.

You can be the greatest boxer of all time (not that JC is even close), but can still only fight who's available.

Calzaghe and Hopkins are better than all these guys, it's that simple. Joe and Bernard shared an enthralling encounter, with Hopkins a little older although Joe's hands being clearly ****ed. Calzaghe's workrate being just enough. Had Bernard been younger, and had Joe's hands been in better shape then you still have a close fight there. Bottom line is they both are head and shoulders above the current crop. Look at their fights and skillset FFS.

    I wish he realised this.

Style is the reason Hopkins is going strong at 45, Calzaghe has retired and RJJ is fighting years after he should have stopped!
