i think he would win aswel but then theres always that feeling that pavlik might just punch too hard for joe and if they start brawling then maybe night night for joe because if he gets invited he usualy agrees to a good old fashioned brawl

At the end of the day, Calzaghe (or Calzacky if you're Emmanuel Steward) is looking for the big money fights and Pavlik doesn't seem to fit that bill. That could be right or wrong, depending on your side of the argument.

Have you noticed how many newbies are on here today? And they are all Slappy Joe fans. Looks like a bunch of brits are sigining in with new screen names. A real mark of desperation.

Maybe Joe hired one of those firms in India to start posting? Lots of people wanting to start from ground zero or just hurling insults.

It wouldn't surprise me if JC managed to score a points win against Pavlik, but Kelly is enough of a threat that if Joe retires without fighting him, it'll be bad for his legacy. Especially if KP continues to do well now and down the road. Alot of people will say Joe cashed out against a badly faded RJJ (assuming Joe wins, which I do) and ducked the young champ.

I think it's to counteract the hater perhaps?

Calzaghe draws more hate from Americans than anyone else. Maybe they know their boxing better than the rest??

I think it's Joe's mouth that draws the hate. Just look at the crap he says. Pavlik is nobody now, but he was a viable opponent when he had a career threatening hand injury, and his best win was Zuniga. what the **** is up with that??

Fair call but the hate didn't start last week.

Ive said Joe would beat him from day one. I'm a big Kelly fan but his power will be nothing that Joe can't handle and Kelly also requires time to get setup and put together punches. Joe will just flurry all around not letting him get into his rythym. Im not saying it's a blowout, but unless Joe gets old overnight he wins this fight.

I would say its a close call, but I am very confident that Pavlik beats Calzaghe. Pavlik is no Lacy...he actually has great skill. People say he is slow, but actually watch him throw a 1-2 ...its one of the fastest straight rights I have seen... Pavlik is way more aggressive than Kessler as well, I think that Pavlik chases JC around with Calzaghe winning most of the early rounds, but as the fight gets to the latter rounds KP's power and relentless assualt gets to JC.. if old man Bhop knocked down JC and dazed him, than just imagine what KP's power will do... I don't think KP will even cover up for some of those slapping combos, he will just keep throwing like he did against miranda.

Look, I'm one of Pavlik's biggest fans and I give him all the credit in the world for the way in which he fights, it's entertaining and definitely a crowd pleaser.

But at this stage in his career, he doesn't beat Hopkins, let alone Joe Calzaghe - he just doesn't have the subtle skill required to do the things you need to do.

Kessler vs Pavlik is a closer fight, I expect Pavlik would KO Kessler late in that.

Good Post. Kessler had multiple opportunities to knock Joe out, but for whatever reason, he failed to pull the trigger. Kelly would pull the trigger.

Kelly also has a history of beating guys based on their own flaws. McKart made one mistake, and got lit up for it. Mranda can't fight off the back foot. Taylor's habits of holding his left low and going straight back got him, not just knocked out, but knocked the **** out!

Now I fully realize McKart and Miranda are not in te same class with Joe, but Joe is not the offensive master his fans claim he is. He has many flaws. Every time he starts winging those wide and fast slaps, he leaves his entire head and the front of his body wide open. Whenever he throws his left to the body he leaves the right side of his face open. When he starts in shoe-shining to the head and face, he leaves his whole body open.

Kelly would not look like the proverbial deer in the headlights like Kessler did, nor would he focus on trying to escape like Hopkins did. KP would pull the ****ing trigger, and pull it often. Joe might "take Pavlik to school" for a few rounds, but ultimately it would be Kelly ringing the class dismissed bell!

I've no doubt in my mind that Calzaghe would win, and clearly at that.

styles make fight and joe would beat pavlik but there are quite a few other styles out there that would beat joe aswell like jt and dawson based purely on style
