Hmmm, he almost lost against a 43 years old Hopkins and got knockdown by a washout Jones.

 

It's the only thing the haters can fall back on now that Calzaghe has beaten both Hopkins and Jones - claim that in his prime RJJ would beat Calzaghe.

They're lucky there is absolutely no way of proving either way.

Personally, I laugh at the prospect of Calzaghe beating a young fit Roy or Bernard. Jones Ko's him and bernard shuts him out.

 

Possible but not probable. I don't think Cal beat an as washed up RJJ as everyone describes on here, myself.

 

I think it is funny RJJ avoided Calzaghe a few years ago. Talking smack about RJJ is fine.

Hopkins on the other hand has never backed down from an offer to fight. If he would have fought Calzaghe in both of their primes it would be an interesting outcome.

IMO threads like this are useless. Who the hell knows what would happen in their primes? It is like saying Ali would have beaten Tyson. Pure speculation. Ali lost to lesser opponents in his prime. All we can do is argue about it.

 

maybe you're right about the haters, but the neutral fans have been saying from before Calzaghe fought Hopkins that prime for prime, both Hopkins and Jones are better fighters than Calzaghe..

Look at the odds for the fights, that should be proof enough.

If anything, relative to the pre-fight odds, Calzaghe has performed poorly in both the Jones and Hopkins fights.

 

On another note, Hopkins is performing just like he was in his prime. The man is a killing machine.

RJJ though is burnt out and needs to retire. He has already tarnished his image and record.

 

I agree. but unfortunately, others will continue to whine and ***** cause he beats up their boys. who says hopkins isn't better than he was fighitng at md weight.

jones is not as good as he was. but for those who claimed jones would win over 'slappy', it is very hard for them to swallow. joe just plain beat the livining **** out of roy, and I give roy oodles of kudos for hanging in there like a champion should. I actually became a little bit of a fan there..

A younger roy would be a much closer fight, alhtough calzaghes style is very hard for roy. at his prime roy beat big slow guys, guys that could not punch, or guys with little to no movement or a combo of all three (or police officers :rofl). joe is just a very different fighter and he would be difficult for roy to beat in anyones prime. joe has no fear, a iron chin and he comes to fight, to engage. anyway, its a mute point.

Yeah, he woulda beat Jones 7-8 years ago . . . in a ****in' track meet. At the mere mention of RJJ's name Joe woulda took off like, "Pyunnnnnn!" and ****in' pulled a hammy in the process thus giving him a legitimate reason to back outta the fight.

 

Bold statement... Not to take any thing away from Calazaghe's greatness but RJJ in his prime was unbelievable..
