Save your words Amsterdam. It's obvious YOU love to read your posts more then anything else. I'll expect your typical "Because I say so" post w/o any substance in a few I guess...
I'm going to be fair, I rate Hopkins giving a prime Roy a good fight as better than a win over Kessler, because of obvious reasons. On terms of better wins than Hopkins, who did Hopkins beat at the MW-LHW level that was better than Kessler? Nobody. Two losses to Taylor come to mind, a man much lesser than Kessler. Who rated him so highly? The same people who were hopped up that Taylor was a 'future ATG' obviously. Nobody who gets outboxed by DLH is going to have much success against skilled MW's, the media frenzy just goes overboard. P4P, Kessler is a more complete fighter than Tito is. Take Tito into proportion, he loses to Kessler, badly. I can understand him not making a dent P4P wise, but an 'elite', everyone ought to at least regard him as such, especially if they want to bring up the MW version of Felix Trinidad as elite, or not so long ago, Jermain Taylor. Kessler is a level above both examples, a level above Pavlik also, who put a big hole in the circle jerking unit's universe, despite being an average fighter overall. It's like nobody can't analyse ****, and it's just ridiculous. He's got an excellent body attack when he employs it, but you have qouted one of the flaws of the euro-stand up style. He unleashes combinations, uppercuts, but people don't pay attention to the subtleness. I'd like to see him varying things up also, he did do that somewhat against Calzaghe, but the problem is that someone grows accustomed to dominating everyone with their strengths and drops the mindset of multi-dimension, Floyd Mayweather does the same thing, he looked awful against Hatton first 5 rounds because of this. I think he'll bounce back very strong, but as it stands, he's a top fighter and there with the best.
Well, do we really need to pull up video and compare? I think it's at face value, Taylor and Pavlik are extremely flawed and Kessler is more complete, but if we must, we can pull up video. I figured this was all common knowledge as we all watch fights often.
OBVIOUS REASONS? Is that your way of saying "I don't really know why?"...or are you actually going to say WHY he is better? Or just state the same thing in a different way? :huh Hopkins beating Tito was better (unless Kessler does somwething later) and will be better then Joe's over Kessler. Yes...the EXACT same people . YOu and your hatred of the American media. Hey, I know it's **** at times, but at least I don't base all on the media. And I didn't realize getting outboxed by DLH means your just not very good. He's P4P MORE COMPLETE then which version of Tito? The 147 fighter or the one who fell in love with his power later on? Is it even possible to gauge who's P4P more complete? atsch All that turns out to be is your opinion. Many fighters were better boxers then Tito, but not better fighters. Big difference. All you do is make your opinion when it comes to you 'analyzation', if that's what it is. You base your opinion on some wisdom you seem to thin klyou have for this sport. It's funny how you and CHJ hype Joe C to infinate proportions, but everyone else who hypes their fave is...wrong? Scratch that, it's not funny at all. Yes, Kessler would beat Tito. But he's NOT greater then Tito and is not CLOSE to Tito's level no matter what crap you spew. Tito had an excellent body attack. Cotto and Hatton have better body attacks. When Kessler attacks it consistantly, then you can call it excellent. Now lets take that logic w/ Tito. He was used to blasting a lot of guys out. It was no wonder he fell in love with his punch. He was used to getting the KO's. He had no back up plan against Hopkins or Wright. Maybe you should have been watching when he was a WW. I think he will too. He's still a top SprMW. But not close to any P4P list yet. SO, if you want to actually SAY WHY Calzaghe's win over Kessler was better then any of Hopkins, I'll wait for a REAL explanantion.
Man, Hopkins was a 4:1 underdog coming into his fight with Tito. What were the odds on the Calzaghe/Kessler fight? I'm sure it was a lot more well rounded. So the public perception was that Hopkins had no chance of beating Tito. And while Tito wasn't an all around talent and well rounded, he was destroying people left and right. I think people get way too caught up in faceless belts and nameless title defenses sometimes and just forget to look at the circumstances surrounding a particular fight. Hopkins and Tito was a huge fight. And public perception was that he had no chance. That carries a lot of weight. Tito was a guy who was undefeated and simply destroying guys up until Hopkins dominated so thoroughly. Same sitaution with the Tarver fight. He was a 3:1 underdog. Again, the public perception leading up to this fight was that Hopkins had no shot. And that's understandable. The guy was 42. He was moving up in weight 2 classes. He was fighting the best LHW at the world at the time. I mean what shot does he have? And what does he do? He completely destroys Tarver. Tito and Tarver is more impressive than Joe C beating another Kessler.
True. And that's somewhat understandable. Yeah, it's easy to say right now that Wright made a mistake. But before the fight, it wasn't such a sure thing. What we have to do is look at comparative opponents in Tito and Taylor. Hopkins fought two close fights with Taylor and Wright fought to a draw. Both Wright and Hopkins destroyed Tito. So there was public perception that Wright would be able to handle the extra weight a lot better than what actually occurred. And it was even at a catch weight of 170. But again, it's easy to say that Wright was way out of his weight limit after the fact. But before the fight, he was the favorite. And there were good reasons for that. Hopkins just has a habit of making supposed great fighters look awful.
Its funny that Calzaghe exposed Lacy as a bum. Lacy exposed Lacy as a ****ing bum. He was all hype, no substance. VERY FEW on that bandwagon..lol
This fight is going to be a no contest. Mark my words. Hopkins leads with his head, Joe is a southpaw that falls forward after he throws a few punches. Head clashes waiting to happen.
I hope so. The only thing i worry about is father time catching up to him. But if he still looks like his fights against Tarver and Wright, i think Hopkins will win. Let's not forget that Hopkins has said many times that he feels like his body at LHW is his best weight right now because he doesn't have to hold back anything. He feels more energized. And in his two fights at LHW, he has been a lot more busier than he has been in years. And i think people forget that. The only thing i worry about is father time kicking in. And Hopkins would not fight Calzaghe if he wasn't confident he had a plan. I thought he would lose against Tarver and Wright. Boy was i wrong. I don't count against Hopkins anymore.
Frankly...I have barely heard of Lacy leading up to this fight...He was like a Levuano..an HBO creation. I think he was more popular in the UK than in the U.S. just like Kessler was more popular there than in Denmark. But this is what they do hype up their guys ..everytime they come here in North America they usually get busted with the exception of Lewis who was actually Canadian. Man I can have a long list of Brit fighters who came here and either got demolished or embarrassed. I remember the time when Toney was intimidating Benn and Eubank on TV..I mean these two were shitting in their pants
