How is he not a boring man? He's never spoke an interesting word.
How is he not a coward? What risk has he ever taken in boxing, he doesn't deserve the support of a single person.

    What a load of bollocks.

Calzaghe hasn't taken any risks in his career? Please.

This has been done to death in this forum and I realise that Dan - B didn't start this thread with that in mind but please get a ****ing clue if your calling any proffessional boxer a coward.

It takes balls to get in the ring in the first place let alone with guys such as Kessler, Lacy, Reid, Sheika and now Hopkins.

Whether he deserves support is subjective. Hes got my support because ive enjoyed watching his fights and also the fact that he doesn't try to bull**** everyone ala Hatton.

This is a boxing forum, only discussed are boxers. And of boxers standards, Calzaghe is a coward.

He is a world class fighter who has made a career of taking no risks, Ottke was in Germany being a p*ssy, Calzaghe was in Britain being a p*ssy. They're no better than each other, Calzaghe is Ottke.
He had Roy Jones, p4p #1 for 5 years at light heavyweight after Calzaghe won his world title, 5 years he didn't go to America, he didn't fight up a weight to get the biggest fight he could. He fought Will McIntyre and David Starie...

How the f*ck can you say he doesn't "try to bullsh*t everyone ala Hatton" - Hatton did EVERYTHING Calzaghe didn't to get the biggest fight in boxing. Hatton is EVERYTHING Calzaghe will never be.

Calzaghe's defining fight, against a 43 year old middleweight, at light heavy... he takes such risks this guy...

    What a superficial analysis there.

Have a look at this thread.

    http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53833

That is my indepth opinion of Calzaghes resume. I did a Hopkins one and I was objective in both.

It contains an actual analysis and assement of Calzaghes competition rather than trotting out the same old bull**** about 'no risks' and what not that has become somewhat of a cliche without any basis from Calzaghe haters.

It also includes a section on why Calzaghe didn't fight certain guys. Most illuminating.

After you've read it please suggest to me who Calzaghe could have fought that would have added substantially to his legacy.

Your analysis of Calzaghe's competition is a load of crap.

Roy didn't want to fight Calzaghe because he was "a guy with only a little American exposure" why did Calzaghe have little American exposure? Because he was fighting Will McIntyre by any chance?

Little exposure is my very problem with the coward. Hatton fought at welterweight, fought in America 3 times.... and his reward... the biggest fight in the sport.
Calzaghe didn't even TRY to get a fight with Roy Jones or Ottke except saying on Sky Sports after fighting bloody Tucker Pudwill that he wanted to fight them? Doesn't work like that, f*cking show them and their country that you want to fight them. Go to Germany, Reid did. Go to America. Fight at Roy's weight.... something. Coward.

No matter what you think of Calzaghes resume, and God Knows its been done to death on ESB, the guy is not a coward. His list of defences over the years does contain some poor fighters but also has Woodhall, Ried, Lacy, Brewer, Mitchel, Shieka, Kessler etc, all decent fighters.

There is truth in the fact that he was happy staying in the UK making defences on home soil, but thats far from being a coward FFS.

Right im not even going to bother my arse debating with you. Your clearly a total hater with a clear bias against Calzaghe.

Calzaghe fought who he could at SMW at that time to gain American exposure.

Guys like Brewer and Sheika. Point is Jones didn't want to know and this is a well established fact.

Who else could Joe have fought to gain his attention? Why Undisputed Middleweight Champion Bernard Hopkins! What happened there when Joe offered him the fight? He accepted then turned it down at the last minute demanding double the money!

Before you even debate that better hit in in google. Jay Larkin of Showtime confirms it. Hopkins doesn't even deny it. THAT would have got Jones attention and THAT would have got him some serious exposure in the US!

Fact is even Hopkins biggest fans admit he didn't want to take that fight because he would have rather waited for DLH to come up to 160. Why? $$$$ And lots of it. I can understand that completly as well but that doesn't change the fact that JC did try to make a huge legacy fight but the door was shut in his face. Not his fault, he was taking the smaller cut of the purse and willing to go to the States. What more do you want?

Go to Germany please. Im embarrassed you even raised Reid in relation to that. Did you actually watch that ****ing fight you moron? Reid was warned for even HITTING Ottke! I can completly understand Calzaghe not wanting that fight. Oh and ive been frequenting this site since 2003 and if you look in the archives, there are a fair few instances of Joe calling Ottke out most infamously with the chicken picture.

And you ignored Calzaghes resume. Are you telling me fights against Eubank, Reid, Sheika, Mitchell, Lacy, Kessler are not at all risky? Your ****ing mad mate.

Well you just talk sh*t, "Hopkins is probably a natural LHW" who fought at middleweight his whole career.

I say what I believe, if other people write nonsense - I'll let them know. Calzaghe never tryed to get the big fights that were there for him to get. I think that makes him a coward.

Its a sad day when the Brit forum gets invaded by numbskulls like this.

Fair enough the guy doesn't think Calzaghe fought as many big fights as he should have.

But to bleat such pish like Calzaghe is a coward(even if it is boxing terms) he has never fought anyone he should have did this and that without any basis whatsoever is just laughable.

Guys like this don't come off as fans of the sport or supporters or a fighter. Just a blind hater.

Reid fought in Germany twice before he got to fight Ottke, which is something that Calzaghe didn't do. That's what I'm saying, Reid DID SOMETHING to get that fight. He didn't sit in England fighting people Ottke had already beaten and get the Ottke fight, he did something about it.

Joe called him out with the chicken picture? Oh what a brave boy.
Why didn't he just fight somebody in Germany like someone who actually wanted the fight? Chicken picture... of course!

Hearing you talk you'd think no one had ever won a fight in Germany.

Calzaghe's resume is as poor as a world champion for 10+ years can get. Of course he beat some ok fighters, but there were serious fights around him and he did nothing to get them. Oh yeh, chicken picture... he did something then.

I think the Eubank fight was a big risk, whilst many of his earlier defences weren't.

But is Joe the first fighter to amass a few easy defences having gone the hard way to winning a title?

    I don't think so.

What bugs people (me as well) is that he didn't chase unification fights, didn't cross the pond, didn't move up/down in weight to take on massive fights - instead clinging to the WBO belt like a bar of gold. Whether this was down to him, or his promoter, I'm sure everyone has their suspicions.

It's just a shame, and in truth, I wonder whether in years to come he will regret not doing the 'Hatton' thing and fronting up time and again over there, maybe he will, maybe he won't.

But to call him a coward is just stupid and ignorant.
