I would never have guess from the avater! (I was thier....well outside the ground). Anyway yeah, chaseing paydays, why should he keep fighting undefeated fighters like Pavlik who become bums as soon as they are beaten like Lacy and Kessler, I dont see any Lacy or Kessler hype-trains on here at the moment.
Lacy IS a bum. He was so over-hyped by american media it's insane. But Kessler is very appreciated around here, you'll not find one poster on ESB claiming he is a bum. Kessler is a solid fighter and Calzaghe's biggest win, imo. Props to Calzaghe for fighting him, and beating him clearly. As for Pavlik, yes he sure gets much hype too, but I think he's a good champion, fighting always with guts and determination. PS: You were there??? Ah, great times, that cup made us all go joy-crazy over here!!!!:thumbsup
I honestly haven't seen people bashing Kessler around here. Kessler is a very good champion, Calzaghe should get much credit for THAT fight.
What does the US offer? He beat your best SMW in Lacy, why go to the USA to fight in the arse end of boxing (it wasnt so long ago you were known as the mecca of boxing) fighting in half filled arenas like the Thomas and Mack infront of 9,000 people! Really, Joe dosent seem to like the celebrity staus/circus so what the **** can fighting in the US offer him other than small **** stadiums and fighting in quiet? The US fans are pathetic, 9000 for title fights? The Uk is pretty much the size of Oregon yet seems to be getting 20 to 50k on the regular!
Once again you may a **** of yourself, Woodhall isnt from Wales! Worlds greatest champs? How many have you had in the past 10 years? I would say 1 (RJJ the only great), the same amount as little old England (Lewis). Do you believe Pavlik is a big name around the world? I bet if I asked 10 friends not 1 would know who he was! Why bring up Woods, he was never a big Uk fighter, he did well for what skills he had, how many american fighters fight outside the US? not many, would rather stay at home than go fight tough fights in Europe. Lacy knows what happens to those who cross.
or he could just fight Pavlik and Dawson at seperate times, and then retire. And if he wants to be even greater, he can fight Diaconu after that. but he can also settle for the more than decent legacy he has now, and call it quits. pretty simple really.
So who were these other great super-middleweights that he should have fought? It's like Vitali - you can't really blame him for the lack of quality in his division. Stop calling Calzaghe the All Time Greatest Cherrypicker!!!
Not a bad idea. Might just make up for 15 years of mediocrity. Beating Dawson & Pavlik at the SAME TIME! That might just make me forget about a career full of has-beens, never-weres and also-rans. I tell you what. If Calzaghe does EVERYTHING you mention above...I'll officially recognize him as an A level fighter in the same class as RJJ.
