This has been discussed so much? But why do so many ppl hate Calzaghe? Its not even that he's not appreciated or not favoured, but its that hes hated. Is he really the only boxer that hasn't fought every boxer he could have? it seems to boil down to the fact that Americans, for the most part, hate him, and despite "various" reasons, its because he's not American. This destroys every arguement, Jones didnt fight everyone, but its forgoten, cos he's the underdog. Hopkins has changed from gone to god. Hopkins is a great fighter, he's lost some, he's not been perfect, but hes liked and respected, as is Jones Junior. Joes a great fighter, maybe he hasn't created a perfect legacy, but the hates become a bit much. Just a thought, I expect nothing to change on account of my thoughts.
They don't hate Joe Calzaghe. It's because of his annoying "fans" and because of loud-mouthed Enzo. And because 3 out of 5 threads have Calzaghe as their topic
Cause he doesn't try to blow smoke up the yanks arses and schmooze his way into their hearts and minds. He says what he thinks and doesn't sugarcoat things. Some people in the US think he should act inferior and 'know his place'. Also his style doesn't ingratiate himself to Americans.
Good fair question but its been done to death mate and its never ever going to change! Anti-Calzaghe bashers bash him apparently in reponse to the so called 'nuthuggers' and because he is over hyped whilst Brits stick up for him whether they are fans or not because the one eyed attitude of his 'haters' pisses them off. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction!
1.He hasn't fought the best 2.He has become a mouthpiece 3.He is european 4.He is a bit slappy Not my opinions but when you read comments fron Calzaghe detractors this is usually what they say
I don't hate Calzaghe. I just think it's wrong that he's been called the greatest light-heavy by some and is put in the same class as Robinson, Ali, and Joe Louis. He hasn't done nearly enough to warrant that level of greatness and the fact that he has barely ventured away from his home country to fight doesn't earn him many HOF points either. Calzaghe and Delahoya are almost the same as far as I'm concerned. They are both fall significantly short when it comes to being recognized as fighting champions. Both appear to be more concerned about one last big pay day.
I dont think anyone thinks that as a light heavyweight he is anywhere near louis or any of the greats at that weight, I personally see him as a great SMW who has gone up a weight and won one great, albeit tiight fight against another great fighter. I dont think he is a nataural light heavy but he has stepped up and done good. His career will be judged mainly at SMW where I think he was exceptional, record shows that no matter what anyone says. You could question the resume of every fighter in history, find flaws and weaknesses but the fact is he is damn good, always was as an amateur and has been as a pro!
