There are some very good wins that Calzaghe owns. I dont think this is Calzaghes best win, but I think Calzaghes win over Byron Mitchell is underated.
Mitchell was the lineal SMW champ but lost a debateable SD to Ottke. Many felt Mitchell won and if the result had of gone Mitchells way he would have been IBF/WBA SMW champ.
Mitchell had a good SMW resume
    2 time WBA SMW champ
He beat #1 Liles by KO
drew with future 2 weight champ Girard
beat Siaca twice who went on to become WBA SMW champ who beat Mundine
beat former MW champ JC Green who beat a prime Joppy before Joppy was beaten by Trinidad or Hopkins.

Saying Mitchell could possibly be Americas best SMW of the decade might not be far wrong. Its between Mitchell and Lacy.
Mitchell had never been clealy beaten as a SMW until Calzaghe got off the deck and stopped Mitchell in 2 rounds

Eubank, Kessler, Hopkins, Mitchell, Jones, Lacy, Reid, Woodhall, are all top wins, then there are the very good world class wins over -
Veit, Brewer, Sheika, Manfredo, Starie, Bika, Mkertchyan

For me, I had Hopkins up in that fight. A draw at the very least.

Jeff Lacy might have been Calzaghe's finest outing, but that depends on whether you reckon Lacy was overrated or not...plenty do...

I think this is just about right.

I think that Lacey was a good fourth mentionable win in context over Reid. Yeah, his career went to **** after, I think partially because of the psychological effects of this fight and partially because he badly injured his arm in his next fight, but in the context of the moment, it was a good win.

Yes, I agree with this. With the one difference that I would rank Lacy lower.

    Now back to boxing.
Mkertchyan became a top 10 SMW after he beat undefeated European champ 26-0 Chanet. Chanet had clearly beaten Tsypko who looked unlucky to many against Lacy.
Mkertchyan became European champ. When Calzaghe beat Mger he had only lost once to a fighter who became a world champ and only ever lost once after by SD.

He was. As said he beat world rated J Chanet

    Look at these old ratings.
    http://www.aussiebox.com.au/rankings.html

You can see Mkertchyan in the WBO top 10 but can also see Chanet in the top 10 of the WBC & WBA, it was at this time Mkertchyan beat Chanet and entered into the top 10 of the magazine ratings. I Think it was the Rings

So your definition of "world-class" is ANYONE who has ever been in the top 10 for ANY period of time, however minimal?

    Seriously? :huh

Wrong again. As said Mkertchyan won away against undefeated 26-0 European champ Chanet, who beat Tsypko that Lacy looked lucky to many against.
Remember it wasnt me that put Mkertchyan in the Rings top 10 after that win. Mger earnt it with a good away victory

So to you Mkergger['';[];92][cdvjn is "world-class" because of one fight, where he beat a fighter who never, ever fought for a world title?

That is to you a "world-class" fighter? :think

Depends on your criteria, but it's probably one of Eubank, Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins.

Hopkins is the best name on his resume.
