I think Calzage can fight who he wants, and he's doing so. Why should he fight pavlik? most people outside of boxing don't no him and it won't generate the kind of buzz the roy will. its his last fight and he wants to go out fighting a legend like he says (and it lines his pockets) I don't blame him. and I think he picks pavlik apart as Taylor showed it was possible in their 2nd fight and joe is better than Taylor. Pavlik does have the potential to be a one hit wonder and people would just critisize joe for beating a 'nobody' don't blame joe here at all.

This highly contradicts his 'I don't want to be the next guy to knock out RJJ" line or his "I want Pavlik because we're both all action fighters" line.

I'm sure when RJJ was the big money attraction, Calzaghe wanted in and I'm sure Calzaghe has had his mind on Roy Jones for a while. It just heavily contradicts all he's said in the past few years.

At the end of the day, Calzaghe can't trip over his own lies fast enough.

Joe spent at least 7 months calling Pavlik out non stop, and Kelly said yes repeatedly, but now Joe won't take the fight. In other words, Joe ducked the guy he called out. That may be the single most amazing display of verbal gymnastics in boxing history.

Boxers always call each other out and it sometimes doesn't make it to the ring, Calzage has started to go after names and 7 months ago Pavlik wasn't one, he still isn't to many people. I think that was a fight that Joe thought he wanted but money talks.

Either way Joe has nothing to prove by fighting Pavlik, but it would be a good fight for fans if it did happen.

And he has what to prove by fighting RJJ?

I won't debate whether he has anything to gain in a fight with Pavlik, as that hampers on your perception of Pavlik...but he gains nothing more than a sweet pay check for facing off against RJJ...at the end of the day.

According to Joe, he wanted Kelly three years ago.

Kelly won the title a year ago and fought Miranda a year and half ago. The Miranda fight is when Kelly became a recognizable name in the boxing world.

So, that puts that theory to bed.

He's past trying to prove himself, he's done. He has nothing to prove against anyone. However, in what he sees as his last fight...he's been fighting for 15years he's 36? he can have that fat pay cheque for me. And in the future people will see that name roy jones on the record. Pavlik is more dangerous to him theres no doubt about that, but who's the bigger name? who's got the legacy? in a last fight situation most would choose roy i imagine.

It's hard to argue with a lot he says to be honest.

Pavlik's style is made for Joe. He LOVES fighters taking the fight to him everyone knows that he's always looked his best against that kind of fighter. Pavlik turrned him down, then chases him when he knows he's going to fight Roy Jones what's the problem with all that?

I hope they both win and Joe gives Uncle Fester a lesson in his retirement fight and retires a legend :happy

Yeah but that's where your wrong IN THE BOXING WORLD. Joe wants people who were regonisable outside of it. aka Hopkins and now Jones and to a certain extent lacy and mafredo (contender). jesus, lacy was the second coming as far as the USA was concered. please tell me Pavlik was on this level? exactly

Calzaghe's legacy is more than secure at this point. I doubt he needs any stat padding as the majority of us boxing folk see him as an awesome fighter. A fight with Pavlik, an in his prime power puncher is much more important for Joe than a fight against a faded RJJ...whose limited to pretty much novelty fights at this point. Either way Joe is going to get paid...and after owning the british/welsh boxing scene, he's got cash.

My point is that at the end of the day people shouldn't be shocked that Joe is being called out for being a liar because he's shown that he is one. If you're going to say one thing and do another, those of paying attention will say something.

Outside the "boxing world" Calzaghe is not a recognizable name.

Well that's why he's trying to sell himself to America, that's why he was fighting 'names' not exactly top up and comers like Pavlik. A notable exception being Kessler. Now you can see Joes point and why he was fighting these people and not making Pavlik out to be the big fight for him, he set his goals higher. (in popularity/financial terms)

At the end of the day Pavlik is just a competitive fight that should be made. Pavlik is not an elite fighter.
