Yeah that's the point I was making, it didn't matter that Pavlik beat Taylor, the fact that Taylor beat Hopkins rose his profile higher than Pavliks has ever been, you can't disagree, he's on fight night ! that proves it, as with lacy. :yep I'm not saying Calzage is to good for Pavlik of course not, he was just always slighlty under the radar there was always a bigger 'name' out there as an option, often easier also.
How all of that gets you in to the top ten p4p list is beyound me especially how some people dont even have Hatton in it. Miranda was not and never will be a world champion so who cares. He beat a contender so lets put him in the to 10 p4p list!!! Taylor was a good win but that is his only win of any significant note. Pavlik still has allot to prove.
Bunch of pathetic haters! A lot of what Joe says is perfectly feasible, although he does use a lot of annoying "tags"; this is a South Walian trait. Listen! (another one) Joe Calzaghe is the man!
If Pavlik beat Taylor who beat Hopkins than by all technacalities, Pavlik has not just assumed their name and marketability...but their souls as well. At the end of the day, you're arguing numbers that you can't back up statistically...draw power, as I said, is often subjective.
My point is Cal talks out of the both sides of his mouth. Kelly wants and has wanted Cal, trust me. Arum wants Cal. Dunkin wants Cal. Where is Joe?
I'm not arguing numbers I'm arguing that Joe wanted established names that have there legacy established, or fighters that have reached dizzy heights for whatever reasons. we all know menfredo Calzage had no draw as a competative fight but hell.. people know who menfredo is. They may not make the best fights but he's trying to reach the public, even if they don't give a ****.
Calzaghe's talking too much **** for this fight not to happen as long as both guys win. There's no other reason to keep mentioning Pavlik with such disdain, and Joe doesn't have a history of doing that with people he won't fight. The opposite of "I love you" isn' "I hate you", it's "I don't care". "I hate you" sells fights, and that's getting damn close to describing where both Calzaghe and Pavlik are at.
No disrespect intended but that fight had some pretty shitty numbers. The draw value of "Contender" fighters is vastly overrated in some parts. It did a good house though...although Calzaghe against Ivan Calderon at 168 would do a good house in Wales.
Everyone wants DLH? whats the differance, its up to Joe if he wants to fight them. All there trying to do is sell themselves to Joe but I don't think he needs to fight them, although I'd like to see a Pavlik match up. If you want him to fight everyone that calls him out that's silly.
Menfredo isn't just a contender fighter, he was the fighter everyone loved off it. Cotto Gomez is much the same.
See and this is where the problem lies man. DLH ofte stays quiet when people call him out or flat out refutes the idea of a fight happening. Calzaghe was very open about wanting a fight with Pavlik. He thought a fight with Pavlik would be the all action fight worth retiring over and said as much repeatedly for months and months. He also was open about not wanting to fight (and KO) RJJ out of respect. Then he pulls a complete swerve and is putting down Pavs for RJJ. It's not a matter of what fight is better or what fight is more money or anything like that, it's Calzaghe shoving his fist down his throat and puking up some nonsense and expecting people not to comment on it. I'm just saying Calzaghe set himself up for this backlash...and it's irrefutable that he walked onto the battlefield with a target painted on his chest and practically BEGGED for a shooting.
It does look like that, It depends on how you see Joes personality. I think he had every intention of fighting Pavlik and now he's trying to justify that fight not happening. He had two choices, fight Roy or Kelly. To you he's a liar just talking nonsense for the hell of it. To me he wanted the fight, but it hasn't happened and now he's trying to talk himself out of it, which may or may not be working with people. Certainly not a liar to me
