Fact is, Pavlik has much of a muchness in his career that Calzaghe had to a similar point. Both receiving the title around about the same stage. But as far as boxer interviews go, this is standard and typical. Boost up the fight you're taking with Roy Jones Jr, disparage the other possible fight as the guy not being ready and perhaps, if Hopkins beats Pavlik, you're justified. If Pavlik wins against Hopkins, Joe either has to face him or deal with heat - and not just from the crowd here who are religious about boxing, but even the media and casual base.
I agree that if Hopkins beats Pavlik, no one will try to make Joe and Pavlik go at it. And like you say joe looks justified in his decision.
Yep -- Slappy had a choice. He could fight the beast who destroyed his sparring partner in 3 rounds and has fairly recent KO's over 7 guys who had never been stopped before, or he could fight RJJ who hasn't won a meaningful fight in years, and is more shot than Ray Robinson's corpse. Kind of a no brainer really:deal
you're not even slightly subtle are you ! You have to take all sides into the equation, we all know Kelly is the more dangerous fighter to Joe, but thats not the only reason he took the jones fight.
You know what makes me just let Calzage have this one? the fact he beat Kessler. now that was a very dangerous fight. And Kessler beats Pavlik IMO
Maybe he believes that he is, I don't but I've not studied tapes etc like he probably has. Pavlik is limited and Joe probably thinks he can rock his world. If roy shows glimpses of old, who knows? also forgot to mention, he is actually going to try and sell the fight. Not say, yeah.. I took the easy option. but buy it anyway
There are such an incredible amount of girls on this forum I think Joe Calzaghe reads this forum and enjoys winding you all up
